He has been a gardener for 6 years, diligently learning how to become a better support species for the ecosystem. A budding permaculturist, he holds a permaculture design certificate and has worked at Northey Street City Farm for 3 years (Nursery, Compost Hub, Farming Team and Youth & Adult Education). AJ hasn't had much formal horticultural or artistic training but his willingness to try and acceptance of mistakes has taught him many lessons that he would like to share in the hope that it will inspire others to give things a go.

McGregor is a national fingerstyle champion known for his versatile musicianship and soulful vocal work. His performances have taken him across Australia and internationally, earning industry awards and a strong following. Claxton brings over 50 years of experience, shaped by blues, rock and jazz influences. A commemorative ceremony will be held in memory of those who served and those who made the supreme sacrifice in the Vietnam War.This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan on 18 August 1966. On that fateful day, one third of D Company, 6th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, were killed or wounded.D Company lost 17 soldiers killed in action, with another 24 wounded, one of whom died nine days later. An Armoured Personnel Carrier commander from A Company, who was part of the relieving force, was also killed.This toll represents the highest single-day loss of life for the Australian Army in Vietnam.In honour of those brave soldiers, the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan was chosen to commemorate Vietnam Veterans' Day. On 18th August each year, we recognise the invaluable contribution of Australians who served in the Vietnam War.More than 60,000 Australians served in Vietnam from 1962 to 1973, with some returning for humanitarian operations in 1975. Sadly, 523 died, some 3,000 were evacuated with wounds, injuries or illnesses, and - amidst strong community opposition to the war - many who returned home were not treated with the respect and honour they deserved.Lest we forget.

Join us for a free talk with platypus expert Dr Tamielle Brunt as part of PlatyMonth this August.Dr Tamielle Brunt is an ecologist whose research focuses on platypus populations in southeast Queensland, working to understand their populations and raise their conservation profile. She is also the Projects Coordinator at Wildlife Queensland, where for more than a decade she has led the regional environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring program, collaborating with communities and stakeholders to track local platypus populations.Through her research, advocacy, and on-ground conservation work, Tamielle aims to strengthen protection for this iconic species and the freshwater ecosystems they depend on across Queensland.In her talk, Tamielle will dive into every aspect of the platypus - from their ecology and behaviour to the conservation efforts underway locally and statewide.Note: Arrive ten minutes early to check in and confirm your attendance.
