Commissioner: Olympia Daniel For four decades, from 1982 to 2025, Frédéric de La Mure pushed the limits of traditional photography, establishing himself as an itinerant chronicler of human destinies for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Rather than confine himself to the constraints of diplomatic protocol, the author has transformed every detour of his official itinerary into an uncompromising look at the world beyond the walls of formal reception rooms. The exhibition is deliberately structured around several key themes that organize this visual archive into a coherent whole. It opens with a paradoxical self-portrait in which the photographer himself is absent—a metaphor for his position as an invisible witness, whose presence is only apparent through his gaze on others. From there, the narrative unfolds to the theme of war and its scars. Perhaps the most iconic photograph was taken in Mostar (2019), showing a woman crossing a street in front of a wall riddled with bullets bearing the inscription: "We all live under the same sky."
