Charlotte Clermont: du soleil, que ça existe

Dates: - Fri, 7 Aug 2026, 12:00–Sun, 6 Sept 2026, 16:00 Charlotte Clermont’s exhibition du soleil, que ça existe in Hippolyte Studio is a two-channel analog projection that explores the temporal dimensions of how the body forms, preserves, and creates what one translates as the real, using film, sound and space. Centered on themes of desire, distance, and language, this textual project moves through the vastness of language and landscapes, creating a sense of space within dialogues and approaching landscapes as bodies. It examines the human relationship with natural elements, particularly water. Fluidity—both of water and identity—is central to the work, inviting viewers to reflect on the nature of self and perception. Shot on black-and-white 16mm film, the images move away from classical cinematic narrative to become moving photographs. Though figurative, the slow panoramas of landscapes and close-ups of bodies tend toward abstraction. On a technical level, Clermont experimented with solarization to produce images that blur the boundaries between drawing, painting, and film. The result is a play of textures, light, and shadow that adds to the emotional depth of the work. Christian Langenskiöld: Leavetaking

Dates: - Fri, 7 Aug 2026, 12:00–Sun, 6 Sept 2026, 16:00 Christian Langenskiöld’s exhibition Leavetaking at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte consists of five photographic works: four diaviewers for large-format sheet film and one stereoscope. The exhibition pieces are built by the artist using timber from fallen trees collected from a place connected to his youth, with each work featuring its own handcrafted structure. At the core of the exhibition is a reflection on places and experiences where personal memory intersects with longer cultural and historical layers. The works draw from summers spent in Raasepori, as well as a journey to Sicily with Diana, a long-standing friend from the artist’s youth who had a deep personal connection to the island and was revisiting places from her earlier life. The photographs originate from this trip and from her home environment, as does the timber used in the works, forming a body of work shaped by encounters with landscapes, architecture, and everyday spaces that carry traces of change over time. Eteläpohjalaisia

Dates: - Fri, 11 Sept 2026, 19:00–21:00 - Tue, 15 Sept 2026, 19:00–21:00 - Fri, 18 Sept 2026, 19:00–21:00 - Sat, 19 Sept 2026, 14:00–16:00 - Tue, 22 Sept 2026, 19:00–21:00 - Fri, 25 Sept 2026, 19:00–21:00 - Sat, 26 Sept 2026, 14:00–16:00 Eteläpohjalaisia on esitys itsetunnosta. He ovat tavanneet ensimmäisen kerran Teatterikorkeakoulun pääsyko...

Tuntemattoman tarina

House Museum

Dates: - Sat, 27 Nov 2021, 0:01–Tue, 31 Jan 2040, 23:59 The heart of the Sinebrychoff Art Museum is the unique home of Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff, which has been on permanent display on the second floor of the building since 27 November 1921. The Sinebrychoffs’ palatial town house at Bulevardi 40 was completed in 1842. The building was immediately considered to be one of the most significant private homes in Helsinki. The last occupants of the house bearing the name Sinebrychoff, Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff, were passionate art enthusiasts. They collected the most beautiful European art and objects for their home. When their collections were donated to the Finnish state in 1921, they comprised more than 900 items. Paul and Fanny’s wish to open the doors of their home to the public to see the art treasures they had collected was recorded in a will almost one hundred years ago. The same spirit still lives on in the museum. Anna Sinebrychoff - Ahead of Her Time

Dates: - Tue, 3 Mar 2026, 11:00–Sun, 29 Aug 2027, 17:00 Anna Sinebrychoff (1830–1904) had a bourgeois girl’s education, married the successful businessman Paul Sinebrychoff (1799–1883) in 1850, and they had four children. On her husband’s death, she attained a position that was rare for a woman in Finland, as majority shareholder and chair of the board of a large company. In the latter half of the 19th century, she became the most important woman in the prominent Sinebrychoff Brewery clan. She resolutely led the family and kept a close eye on the work of her two sons as they managed the company. She was the undisputed matriarch and a revered grandmother. Anna Sinebrychoff died in 1904. The numerous obituaries noted her extensive charitable work. The exhibition offers a broad overview of Anna’s life and work in Helsinki from the 1850s onwards. At its core is Anna Sinebrychoff the active influencer: bearer of responsibility for the family and business, benefactor, prominent figure in associations and societies, and member of the Orthodox congregation. The Peacock in the Garden

Dates: - Thu, 24 Sept 2026, 11:00–Sun, 10 Jan 2027, 17:00 The Peacock in the Garden – Mathias Withoos and Rome Like many of his colleagues, the painter Mathias Withoos joined the Bentvueghels during his stay in Rome around 1648–1653. Rome can be seen in his art in the landscapes, which he framed with abundant plant motifs. In his signature still-life paintings, undergrowth teeming with life is combined with elements from a sublime urban landscape. In his oeuvre he repeatedly returned to Roman and Italian influences. The Bentvueghels group sprang up among Dutch and Flemish artists in Rome around 1620, and the community continued in existence for a century, until 1720. They were boisterous revellers who spent time in close-knit togetherness in their new city. But being in Rome was about more than just carousing. They took art making and artistic development seriously. The members of the Bentvueghels were especially keen on drawing and painting in the open air. The artists wanted to learn from the Italian masters, and also sought out new views in the city. The group included, among others, Caspar van Wittel (1653–1736), Jan Both (1618–1652) and Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1594–1667), whose works are in this exhibition.
