Kevätkaudella 2026 Helsingin kaupunginkirjaston toimipisteissä ja Kirjastokaistalla avautuu uusi näkymä näytelmäkirjallisuuteen. Lue näytelmä! -tapahtumasarja tuo kerran kuussa yhteen näytelmäkirjailijan ja kirjastoammattilaisen keskustelemaan teksteistä, näyttämöistä ja lukemisesta – sekä houkuttelemaan yleisön tarttumaan näytelmään kirjana. Mukaan pääset kirjastoissa sekä myös striimin ja tallenteiden välityksellä ajasta ja paikasta riippumatta osoitteessa kirjastokaista.fi .
Näytelmäkirjallisuus nousee valokeilaan.
Mitä näytelmäkirjallisuus voi tarjota lukijalle, ja miksi se on jäänyt kirjallisuuden kentällä melko vähälle huomiolle? Keväällä 2026 käynnistyvä Lue näytelmä! -sarja etsii vastauksia näihin kysymyksiin. Sarjan jokaisessa tilaisuudessa kirjastoammattilainen haastattelee kotimaista näytelmäkirjailijaa, ja keskustelun lomassa nostetaan esiin vinkkejä ja havaintoja kirjastojen näytelmähyllyistä.
Näytelmä ei ole vain näyttämölle kirjoitettu – se on oma kirjallisuudenlajinsa, joka ansaitsee tulla myös luetuksi. Näytelmä avautuu lukijalle aivan omalla tavallaan, kuten romaani, runo ja elokuvakäsikirjoituskin. Suomen Näytelmäkirjailijat ja Käsikirjoittajat ry:n (Sunklo), Helsingin kaupunginkirjaston ja Kirjastokaistan tuottaman sarjan tavoitteena on lisätä keskustelua näytelmäkirjallisuudesta ja sen lukemisesta – sekä tuoda esiin suomalaisia näytelmäkirjailijoita, joiden teokset elävät paitsi näyttämöllä myös lukukokemuksina.

The Vuosaari-seura association is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and invites all Vuosaari residents to join the celebrations at Vuosaari House.
The gala programme features a diverse line-up of music, theatre and circus performances by local operators and artists. Hugo the fisherman ( Eero Hilden ) and theatre director Nea Virtanen take participants on a journey through Vuosaari’s history, present and future.
The gala events for the whole family are held over two evenings: 9 and 10 October. The gala on Friday 9 October is suitable for children aged 12 and over. The gala on 10 October features entertainment for younger children as well, and is suitable for ages 5 and over.

Join us in bringing the joy of exercise to older adults—Welcome to the Liikuntaluotsi Peer Instructor Training on October 29 and November 5, 2026!
The free Liikuntaluotsi training is open to people of all ages who are interested in volunteering in physical activity. This two-day training provides the basic skills needed to serve as a volunteer peer instructor in exercise groups for older adults. The training covers topics such as the benefits of physical activity and exercise recommendations, the basics of leading exercise sessions for older adults, and strength and balance training for older adults. In addition, the training provides ideas and tips for planning and implementing exercise group activities. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the training includes hands-on practice.
No prior experience in leading exercise programs or volunteering is required. The most important thing is an interest in physical activity and a desire to encourage others to be active as well. And, of course, you’ll get to exercise yourself in a fun group!
The content of the groups led by fitness instructors may vary depending on the volunteers’ own motivations, skills, and interests. Fitness instructors can lead, for example, walking or Nordic walking groups, chair exercises, yard games, or even outdoor gym workouts. The training does not require participants to lead activities. The training is conducted in both English and simple Finnish.

This live performance of brand-new Moomin music invites both children and adults to join in the adventures of Moominvalley.
Sony Music is bringing the familiar Moomin characters to new music and the stage: the new Moomin album is accompanied by a live musical theatre production, Pyrstötähteä etsimässä . Written and directed by Henna Tanskanen , the performance brings the story to life through song, acting and visual storytelling. The production premieres on 29 September and will then go on tour across Finland.
Based on the novel Comet in Moominland ( Kometjakten , 1946), the performance focuses on themes that are central to Tove Jansson’s original stories: friendship, adventure, working together and the courage to be oneself. The new songs expand on the Moomin music tradition with fresh lyrics and contemporary production, while the stage show also features new arrangements of the classics beloved by the audience.
The show is suitable for people of all ages.

Iivari Aalto on Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemialta jouluna 2025 valmistunut pianisti.
Hänen opettajinaan toimivat Kirill Kozlovski ja professori Tuija Hakkila. Tällä hetkellä hän toimii Helsingissä freelance-muusikkona, sekä pianonsoiton opettajana Helsingin Konservatoriolla. Iivari on täydentänyt pianistin opintojaan vanhan musiikin osastolla cembalolla ja fortepianolla. Hän on myös perehtynyt uuden musiikin esittämiseen mm. NYKY-Ensemblen ja Uusinta Ensemblen riveissä, sekä toimii säännöllisesti eri kamarimusiikki- ja lied-kokoonpanoissa. Lisäksi Iivari on toiminut korrepetiittorina sekä orkesteripianistina. Hänen tärkeimpiä työnantajiaan on ollut mm. Suomen Kansallisteatteri, RSO, HKO, OperaBox ja Ooppera Skaala. Iivari on konsertoinut Pohjoismaissa, kaikissa Baltian maissa, Saksassa, Alankomaissa sekä Yhdysvalloissa. Hän on espoolaisen RADALLA-festivaalin yksi perustajajäsenistä, sekä toimii festivaalin taiteellisena johtajana veljensä Artturi Aallon kanssa. Kilpailumenestystä hän on saavuttanut mm. ensimmäisellä palkinnolla Juvenalia-kamarimusiikkikilpailun nelikätissarjassa vuonna 2017, sekä Helmi-Vesa pianokilpailuissa vuosina 2019 ja 2023. Hänet palkittiin myös 2025 Tampereen pianokilpailun finalistina, sekä erityispalkinnolla “parhaasta ennen vuotta 1829 sävelletyn teoksen esittämisestä”. Iivarin opintoja on tukenut mm. Pro Musica, Martin Wegeliuksen muisto -säätiö ja Suomen Kulttuurirahasto.

Maija Väisänen on Sibelius-Akatemiasta ja Lontoon Guildhall Schoolista valmistunut pianisti, joka konsertoi aktiivisesti, toimii Vuotalon Flyygelikuun taiteellisena koordinaattorina sekä opettaa pianonsoittoa Taideyliopiston Sibelius-Akatemiassa. Maija on esiintynyt festivaaleilla Euroopassa ja Yhdysvalloissa sekä useiden kotimaisten orkesterien solistina. Hänet on palkittu useissa kansainvälisissä kilpailuissa, mm. 2. palkinto Concours Grieg -pianoduokilpailussa 2005 ja tunnustuspalkinto Maj Lind -kilpailussa 2007. Maijan viimeaikaisiin projekteihin kuuluu mm. Poulencin pianokamarimusiikin kokonaisesitys, taideklubi Hampurissa, naisten säveltämän kamarimusiikin esittäminen eri yhteyksissä sekä Villa Salmenrannan Kesäkonserttien taiteellisen johtajan tehtävät 2019-2025. Maijan ensimmäinen soololevy Metamorphoses of Flowers ilmestyi Pilfink-merkiltä kesäkuussa.

Hand-weaving is a craft that connects cultures and people around the world. The Weaving Kiosk is an open and temporary public space where weaving tools and materials are easily available to everyone.

Vipattaako tanssijalkaa tai tekeekö mieli vain nauttia salsamusiikista ja hyvistä tarjoiluista? Vuotalon aulassa tarjoillaan avoimen salsatanssitunnin lisäksi kahvia, pientä purtavaa sekä musiikkia latinalaisesta Amerikasta. Olet tervetullut hengailemaan sekä pelaamaan shakkia ja muita pöytäpelejä, eli tanssimaan ei ketään pakoteta.

Made in Vuosaari on kuvataiteilija Anne Roinisen moniosainen puheenvuoro tavarasta.
Projektin tarkoitus on kurottaa kohti alueen asukkaita ja saada tutkimaan omia kodin tavaroita. Mistä ne ovat lähtöisin? Onko niillä käyttöä? Minne ne tulevat päätymään, kun niitä ei enää tarvita?
Vuosaarelaisten lahjoittamista tarpeettomista tavaroista on tehty koosteita kirjaston elämäkertaosastoille. Esinekoosteet näyttäytyvät alueen asukkaiden muotokuvina. Lahjoitetut esineet on skannattu ja tulostettu uuteen kokonaisuuteen 3D-tulostimella. Näin näyttelyn osaksi tuodaan paikallisten asukkaiden läsnäoloa ja mikrohistoriaa.
Alueen asukkailta kerätyt esineet ovat suurelta osin Kiinassa massatuotettuja tavaroita, joiden merkitys on hävinnyt uutuusarvon kadottua. Ehkä juuri tässä piilee nykyhetkessämme kytevä kriisi: maailma täyttyy muovista ja tavarasta, jota kukaan ei arvosta tai halua. Miten muuttaisimme suhteemme esineisiin vaalivaksi ja arvostavaksi? Miten oppisimme näkemään uutuusarvon ohi ja suosimaan kestäväksi suunniteltuja, korjattavissa olevia, tarinoiden kyllästämiä tavaroita?
Anne Roininen on kuvanveistäjä, joka työskentelee usein paikkasidonnaisesti ja prosessipohjaisesti. Kohtaamiset ihmisten kanssa ovat tärkeä osa Roinisen työskentelyä, ja teosten taustalla on usein poliittinenkin lataus. Lue lisää:https://anneroininen.com/

Minna Eväsoja saapuu vieraaksi Vuosaaren kirjastoon torstaina 17.9. klo 18.00. Häntä haastattelee Katri Sola.
Haastattelussa käsitellään Eväsojan uusinta Rakkauden merkit -teosta, joka valottaa japanilaisen naisen elämää kuuden dokumentaarisen tarinan kautta. Keskiössä ovat rakkaus ja avioliitto: kumppanin etsiminen, perhearki ja parisuhteen kipupisteet ennen ja nyt.
Eväsoja on asunut vuosia Japanissa ja opiskellut Takarazukan ja Koben yliopistoissa sekä Urasenken perinteisessä teekoulussa Kiotossa.
Hän työskenteli yli kaksikymmentä vuotta tutkijana akateemisessa maailmassa ja on edelleen pidetty puhuja ja luennoitsija. Eväsoja on julkaissut useita kirjoja japanilaisesta estetiikasta, taiteista ja yhteiskunnasta. Hän asuu perheineen Espoon Tapiolassa.

Rakkaus näkyy ja tuntuu kirjaston tapahtumasarjassa syksyllä 2026. Ohjelma yltää yhteislaulutuokioista kirjailijavierailuihin ja rakkausrunokilpailusta pikatreffeihin. Tervetuloa kirjastoon kohtaamaan rakkauden monet muodot!

Aki Ollikainen kertoo ja keskustelee kaunokirjallisesta tuotannostaan Vuosaaren kirjastossa. Häntä haastattele Jani Saxell.
Aki Ollikainen on muun muassa kirjoittanut neljä romaania ja voittanut Helsingin sanomien kirjallisuuspalkinnon vuonna 2012. Ollikainen on myös kirjoittanut rikosromaaneja yhdessä puolisonsa Milla Ollikaisen kanssa nimellä A.M Ollikainen.
Tuoreessa tietokirjassaan Tattarisuon noitapiiri (2025) Ollikainen sukeltaa Tattarisuon tapaukseen, joka kuuluu Suomen rikoshistorian tunnetuimpiin mysteereihin.

We bring much of our goods, equipment, clothes and everything that surrounds us in our daily lives in containers by sea.
Vuosaari Harbour and the sea that is so close to us are part of the global movement of goods.
In the courtyard of Cultural Centre Vuotalo, an installation that is the same dimensions as a shipping container will be built, with stacks of tiles depicting the waves of the seascape, as if they were the cargo of a ship, the sea cubed into merchandise.
The installation seeks to create an airy and light atmosphere, a sense of the sea and, on the other hand, a sense of wistfulness and sadness in a time of ecological crisis.
Made in Vuosaari is based on Anne Roininen's ongoing series of ‘Made in’ works, which have been realised with slightly different emphases in Ylikiiminki in Oulu, and Töölö and Kruunuvuorenranta in Helsinki.

The focus is on the global commodity production machine and the processing of local identity.
Anne Roininen is a sculptor whose works are often site-specific and process-based. Encounters with people are an important part of Roininen's work, and the works are often politically charged.

Ensimmäisen lapsen saaminen ja äidiksi tuleminen on elämän suurimpia muutoksia. Vertaisryhmässä saat mahdollisuuden jakaa tähän uuteen elämäntilanteeseen liittyviä ajatuksia, tunteita ja kokemuksia. Puolet kerroista on ohjattuja ja ryhmäläiset voivat vaikuttaa niiden sisältöön. Tarkoitus on, että ohjattujen kertojen jälkeen ryhmä jatkaa loput kerrat itsenäisesti.
Jos ryhmäaika sattuu vauvasi päiväunien aikaan, voit jättää vauvan nukkumaan vaunuihin sen huoneen ikkunan eteen, jossa olemme tai voit ottaa hänet sisälle nukkumaan kopassa.

Treffeillä voi halutessaan osallistua ohjattuun tuokioon, joka alkaa pääsääntöisesti klo 10.15 ja kestää maksimissaan klo 11 asti. Ohjattu tuokio voi olla musisointia, liikkumista, sirkusta, vesileikkejä, maalausta, askartelua. Perheet voivat myös esittää toiveita tuokioiden sisältöihin.

Soitinjameissa pääset mukaan jammailemaan yhdessä kymmenien soittajien kanssa. Ydinporukka muodostuu työväenopiston soitinkurssien opiskelijoista, mutta mukaan saa tulla kuka vaan soittotaitoinen oman soittimensa kanssa. Tällä kertaa soitinjamit on joulutunnelmissa ja mukaan saa tulla myös laulamaan. Biisilistan löydät alta ja jameissa saat nuotin eteesi. Ja eikun soittamaan :)

The Samurai of Prog (TSOP) is a truly exceptional force in modern progressive rock.
The ambitious, visually stunning, and musically sophisticated collective has more than 30 000 albums sold worldwide. After inquiries in numerous interviews and fan requests globally, TSOP is finally playing a live tour spanning Finland and Europe in 2026.
The Samurai of Prog (TSOP) is a world-class progressive rock collective known for cinematic concept albums, lush symphonic arrangements, and striking visual artistry by Ed Unitsky . The band was founded in 2009 by bassist Marco Bernard , who was soon joined by Finnish drummer Kimmo Pörsti , and USA-based multi-instrumentalist/singer Steve Unruh . These three formed the core trio of TSOP.
They have since collaborated with legends including Jon Davison (Yes), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings), and Steve Hackett (Genesis), Ton Scherpenzeel (Camel, Kayak) and Clive Nolan (Pendragon). Their acclaimed discography spans over 20 albums, from 2011’s Undercover to 2024’s The Time Machine .
In 2026, TSOP will take their epic soundscapes to the stage for the very first time, with a dynamic line-up featuring Marco Grieco (keyboards), Toni “Tony Riveryman” Jokinen (guitar), Risto Salmi (saxes, EWI), Bona Sandström (vocals), Jan-Olof Strandberg (bass), and Kimmo Pörsti (drums).

Ruotsalaisuuden päivää juhlistetaan Vuotalossa monikielisellä oopperaesityksellä!
Giellavealgu (Kielenvaihtaja) on tammikuussa 2026 ensi-iltansa saanut Opera Boxin tuottama, 3–12-vuotiaille suunnattu monikielinen lastenooppera. Teos käsittelee pohjoisen luontoa, ystävyyttä ja kieltä naalin, sinirinnan ja tunturipöllön etsiessä yhteistä ääntä. Oopperan ovat ohjanneet ja käsikirjoittaneet Isa Kortekangas ja Ville Salonen ja sen Lapin luontoon pohjautuvan, etno-vaikutteisen ja viulun säestämän musiikin ovat säveltäneet Pessi Jouste ja Elias Nieminen .
Ooppera korostaa pohjoisten kielten ja kulttuurien merkitystä ja on osa laajempaa kotimaisten
kielten teemavuotta. Sen keskeisiä teemoja ovat saamelaisuus, identiteetti, luonnon monimuotoisuus ja tasa-arvoinen ystävyys.

Pasi Pitkänen's atmospheric illustrations open windows to imaginary worlds. What kind of foreign realities do you see in the pictures?
Kohti tuntematonta (‘Towards the unknown’) invites you to jump into the adventure! Illustration plays an important role in bringing words to life. See for yourself! You may see mysterious places, strange creatures, light and shadow, magical snakes and fascinating runic characters. Pitkänen's illustrations exude excitement, threat and even some danger. Do you dare look at the image, pick up a book and head into the unknown?
The exhibition and event for children and young people is a compilation of Pasi Pitkänen's extensive illustrations. The exhibition includes a selection of images from book series in which Pitkänen is an equal creator alongside the authors: Pate (Timo Parvela), Kepler62 (Timo Parvela and Bjørn Sortland), Paavali Pattinen (Hannele Lampela) and Ouroboros (Silja Sillanpää).
The exhibition is open from 20 August to 26 September 2026. The accompanying programme to the exhibition is aimed at schools and families. On International Literacy Day on 8 September, Vuotalo will host a morning of events for schoolchildren, and on Saturday 19 September, the centre will host a family day, both with Pasi Pitkänen. On Monday mornings, the exhibition space will be reserved for workshops for schoolchildren.

Brage’s folk music ensemble and the Brage folk dance group return now for the fifth time to Vuotori Square.
The musicians and dancers perform Finland-Swedish folk music and dances.
The folk music ensemble’s M.O. is to perform Finland-Swedish folk music. The artistic director of the folk music ensemble is Henrica Westerholm .
Brage’s folk dance group consists of dancers of various ages. A distinctive feature of the dance group is the versatile use of minuets, polskas, hambo, and singing games in their programmes. Folk dance master Eivor Wallinvirta has developed the repertoire from simple sequences of dances, one after the other, into complete programmes. There song, dance and music equally depict events in life, including celebrations and festivals, as they were in the past.
The Föreningen Brage association in Helsinki was founded in 1906 to preserve and nurture Finland-Swedish folk culture through song and dance, and later through traditional costumes, as well. Brage is a dynamic association that lives up to its original objectives: to combine the academic and the practical, and to actively encourage the practice of Finland-Swedish folk culture.

An evening of shared musical worlds, where two ensembles meet through common roots, voices and artistic vision.
The concert brings together Sofra Trio and Lumira. Two formations connected through the same core musicians, yet unfolding in distinct sonic directions.
Sofra Trio
Melisa Yıldırım, Merve Abdurrahmani and Hadi Hrekes create a musical sofra; a shared table where traditions from Syria, Türkiye and the Balkans meet. Drawing from both traditional repertoire and original compositions, their music weaves together memory, migration and contemporary expression into a living, evolving dialogue.
Lumira: debut concert
With Lumira, Merve Abdurrahmani and Melisa Yıldırım are joined by Aki Rissanen in a new ensemble exploring empathy, community and the emotional realities of life in conflict zones. Blending Finnish, Balkan and Turkish musical traditions Lumira moves between original compositions and folk songs, especially lullabies and songs for children, carrying themes of memory, loss and care across generations.
The name Lumira reflects the project’s essence: lumi (snow, light, stillness of the North) and mira (peace in many languages). Through music, the ensemble invites listeners to reflect, to feel, and to reconnect with the often unheard voices of children affected by crisis.
Together, these two performances form a continuous musical journey – from shared table to inner landscape – where the same artists open different doors into sound, story and listening.

Jazz for Kids concerts welcome everyone from babies to grandparents! Professional musicians perform their own work at a child-friendly volume in the lobby.
Jazz for Kids is a series of high-quality jazz concerts for everyone from babies to grandparents! Professional musicians perform their work at child-friendly volumes in the easily accessible facilities of the City’s cultural centres.
Nikita Rafaelov is a Helsinki-based keyboardist, producer and composer who has established himself at the forefront of Finnish jazz and experimental music. He has performed at events such as Pori Jazz, the Oulu Music Festival and Flow Festival.
At the Jazz for Kids concert at Vuosaari House, Rafaelov performs tracks from his solo album Heart Does What Heart Wants , released in autumn 2024, as well as other new and older material. Using a piano, a synthesiser, a sampler and a computer, he takes his audience on a journey through the worlds of electroacoustic jazz, ambient and lo-fi hip-hop.
The duration of the event is 45 min. The artist will perform for roughly 35 minutes, after which the audience can meet the musician and see the instruments used.

During Helsinki Design Week, visitors to Vuosaari House get to explore an exhibition aimed at children and young people and take part in a Lego workshop.
In the Lego workshop by Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, we take a train to the world of imagination! What would a train travelling through imaginary worlds be like, one to which everyone could add a carriage that they have built themselves and join the adventure?
In this workshop organised by Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, participants build the most wondrous carriages to form part of a jointly created snake train, inspired by Pasi Pitkänen’s exhibition Kohti tuntematonta (‘Towards the Unknown’). Bossa nova guitarist Jarkko Toivonen, who will be celebrating his 40th anniversary as an artist next year, takes to the stage with his long-standing bandmates.
Performing alongside Toivonen at the concert are percussionist Mongo Aaltonen and bassist Tuure Koski. The songs featured on the setlist range from Toivonen’s first album, Sambolero (1987), all the way to his latest album, View to Serenity , released last year. All in all, Toivonen has released 13 albums.
Having performed with several legendary Brazilian artists, such as guitarist Sebastiao Tapajos, flautist and singer Danilo Caymmi, percussionist Marcelo Salazar and singer Ithamara Koorax, Toivonen is set to play not only bossa nova and samba but also bolero, choro and baiao styles at this concert.
Club night, fully licensed bar. Refreshments are served by Café Pokkari. The doors open at 17.30. Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their guardian.

On Saturday, we enjoy a fun family day out at the Towards the Unknown exhibition.
Illustrator Pasi Pitkänen meets visitors and draws in the exhibition space. Come and see how he creates his pictures!
In these workshops aimed at families, participants get to learn about the collage technique and make button pins. During story time, we’ll be reading Pasi Pitkänen’s enchanting adventure book Kadonneiden eläinten saari (‘The Island of Lost Animals’). The exhibition space features a wide selection of books illustrated by Pitkänen, which visitors can borrow to take home.
In the family day collage workshop, participants get to use their imagination and create their own strange creatures and magical snakes by drawing, cutting and tearing. What does a magical snake with rainbow-coloured wings look like? What about your own strange creature – could it have feelers and a shell, like a snail? Children can make these funny and strange creatures, created by using the collage technique, either by themselves or together with their adult. The finished works can be taken home.
The Kohti tuntematonta (‘Towards the Unknown’) exhibition and event for children and young people is a compilation of Pasi Pitkänen's extensive illustrations. The exhibition will be open until 26 September 2026 in the Vuosaari House gallery.

BabyOcean is a dance performance and a sensory experience for babies and their adults.
BabyOcean is a lovely journey to the origins of life, the primeval sea, where the protozoans of the Eocene epoch float around, move about and transform. BabyOcean allows the audience to experience, immerse themselves and participate, or just relax into the flow of the show.
The performance is intended for families with babies (0–18 months), but it can also be enjoyed by the whole family.
The duration of the performance is 40 minutes.
The performance premiered on 10 September 2025 at Annantalo in Helsinki, and it was also featured in the autumn 2025 programme of Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth, for example. This time, we get to enjoy it at Vuosaari House on Baby Day 2026. Congratulations to all babies!

15.9. Panssarilaiva Ilmarisen tuhosta 85 vuotta
Suomen laivaston lippulaiva, panssarilaiva Ilmarinen, upposi ajettuaan miinaan Utön edustalla 13. syyskuuta 1941. Aluksen mukana menehtyi 271 miestä, ja tragedia salattiin Mannerheimin määräyksestä syksyyn 1945 asti.

20.10. Vartiokylänlahden ympäristön historiaa
Keskiajalla Vartiokylänlahden reunoille syntyi kaksi kylää, joista myöhemmin muodostuivat Puotilan ja Rastilan kartanot. Alueella sijaitsi myös muinaista merensalmea vartioinut linnavuori. Luennolla kerrotaan paikoista ja ihmisistä Vartiokylänlahden äärellä menneinä vuosisatoina sekä kurkistetaan myös alueen tulevaisuuteen.

10.11. Varhaista edunvalvontaa – Helsingin merimieshuone 1700-luvulla
Merityövoiman edunvalvonnalle oli 1700-luvun jälkipuoliskolla tarve. Työ merellä oli kovaa, kuluttavaa ja vaarallista ja leskiä oli paljon. Viaporin linnoitustyömaa oli vilkastuttanut kaupungin elinkeinotoimintaa ja kauppamerenkulkua sekä kasvattanut merenkulusta elantonsa saavien määrää. Helsingin merimieshuone oli yksi Viaporin linnoitustyömaan mukanaan tuomista sosiaalisista innovaatioista.

Come and play with us and see if Saara and the animals can get on the same page!
Saara and the animals are trying to think of something to do together, but this time it feels a bit tricky. The mouse would like to make cheese, the cat would like to swim, Saara would like to dance the troll dance, and the cow would like to live the life of a dog. The horse, on the other hand, would like to carry on rhyming with the pig.
Fresh, imaginative arrangements, skilful playing and harmonised singing are all hallmarks of Lastenmusiikkiorkesteri Ammuu! The band has won the hearts of Finnish children and adults alike with its pedagogical expertise and its incredibly skilful musical performances.

This summer concert features traditional pieces by Helsinki Balalaika Orchestra – much loved by audiences – as well as works by pianist and composer Sergei Sokolov.
Pentti Yrjänäinen has arranged Sokolov’s compositions for a balalaika orchestra; these pieces draw on influences from classical music, folk music, bossa nova and jazz.
The orchestra’s own vocal soloists, Heli Jormanainen and Slava Druzhinin , give emotive performances of both timeless classics and new compositions by Sergei. The performance also features the orchestra’s instrumental soloists, Pentti Yrjänäinen (domra) and Mikhail Vasilyev (accordion). The orchestra is led by Gennadi Klykov .

Tule mukaan tuomaan liikunnan iloa ikäihmisille! Tervetuloa Liikuntaluotsi-vertaisohjaajakoulutukseen 24.9. ja 1.10.26.
Maksuton Liikuntaluotsi-koulutus on tarkoitettu kaikenikäisille liikunnan vapaaehtoistoiminnasta kiinnostuneille. Kaksipäiväinen koulutus antaa perusvalmiudet toimia vapaaehtoisena vertaisohjaajana ikäihmisten liikuntaryhmissä. Koulutus sisältää tietoa mm. liikkumisen vaikutuksista ja liikkumissuosituksista, ikääntyneiden liikunnan ohjaamisen perusteista sekä ikääntyneiden voima- ja tasapainoharjoittelusta. Lisäksi koulutus antaa ideoita ja vinkkejä liikuntaryhmien sisältöjen suunnitteluun ja toteutukseen. Teoriatiedon lisäksi koulutus sisältää käytännön harjoittelua.
Aiempaa kokemusta liikunnan ohjaamisesta tai vapaaehtoistoiminnasta ei tarvita. Tärkeintä on kiinnostus liikkumista kohtaan sekä halu kannustaa myös toisia liikkumaan. Ja samalla tietysti pääsee itsekin liikkumaan mukavassa porukassa!
Liikuntaluotsina voi toimia esimerkiksi Helsingin kaupungin alueliikunnassa, palvelukeskuksissa, kirjastoissa ja yhteisötaloissa. Liikuntaluotsien ohjaamien ryhmien sisältö voi vaihdella riippuen vapaaehtoisten omista motiiveista, taidoista ja kiinnostuksen kohteista. Liikuntaluotsit voivat ohjata esimerkiksi kävely-/sauvakävelyryhmää, tuolijumppaa, pihapelejä tai vaikkapa ulkokuntosaliharjoittelua. Koulutus ei sido osallistujaa mukaan ohjaustoimintaan. Koulutus pidetään suomen kielellä.

When Youssef Asad Alkhatib, who is of Syrian origin, arrived in Finland as a refugee at the age of 16, he found an unexpected source of comfort in the Finnish soundscape and the songs of Tapio Rautavaara.
He identified with them and recognised something of himself in them. Ever since then, Alkhatib’s dream has been to create a performance about Finnish culture and his complex relationship with his idol. On Independence Day 2025, this long-held dream came true in KOM-teatteri.
The performance tells, with a smile, the story of a vagabond arriving from afar who has heard people talking about Finland and the happiest people in the world who live there. The language is unfamiliar and the customs strange, but Rautavaara’s songs offer guidance and hope for a better future. When the vagabond learns that his idol was also an Olympic medallist and a film star, his standards soar to the skies. How does our tenacious hero manage to live up to the expectations that he has set for himself and embody the archetype of the perfect Finnish man? And how far is he prepared to go to become as beloved as Tapsa, who was adored by the whole nation?
Youssef Asad Alkhatib is one of the most interesting new voices in Finnish theatre. Ajaton ja lämminhenkinen tuokio ikivihreiden sävelmien ja Kyösti Mäkimattilan ja Ajaton sointu -yhtyeen oman tuotannon parissa.
Konsertti tarjoaa sävyjä tanssilavojen kiihkeistä tunnelmista kaupunkien salonkien intiimiin hämyyn.
Kyösti Mäkimattila on Suomen eturivin iskelmälaulaja ja lauluntekijä sekä kirjailija ja runoilija. Hän nousi koko kansan tietoisuuteen Seinäjoen Tangomarkkinoiden laulukilpailusta, jossa hänet kruunattiin Tangokuninkaaksi vuonna 2013. Hänet muistetaan hyvin The Cruels- ja Varjokuva-orkestereista.
Tammikuussa 2025 Kyösti aloitti syväluotaavan seikkailun suomalaisen tanssilavakulttuurin hienouksiin uuden Ajaton sointu -orkesterin kanssa.
Syntymässä on perinteinen ja menneen ajan lumosta ammentava, akustisiin soittimiin tukeutuva tanssiorkesteri, jonka kanssa rakenteilla on uusi, monipuolinen ohjelmisto. Tarjolla on huolellista ja entistä perehtyneempää tekemistä, uutta ja vanhaa, uteliasta vuorovaikutusta koko kentän kanssa.

Come to Vuosaari House to watch films during the autumn break!
With Moominpappa’s help, Moomintroll, Snufkin and Sniff build a raft and set off for the Lonely Mountains to get to the bottom of the matter. Perhaps the wise professors at the observatory will be able to explain what is going on.
On their journey, they encounter not only their old friends Snorkmaiden, Snork and Hemulens, but also new, strange creatures and dangers. A summer raft trip turns into an exciting adventure, and viewers are swept up in the excitement in the film Moomins and the Comet Chase .

“How many people from Rauma have made a record that will one day be sent into space?”
Pauli (Samuel Kujala), a classical flutist, returns to his small Finnish hometown to recover after a breakdown. Unable to play, he feels like a failure. Pauli runs into Iiris (Anna Rosaliina Kauno), who makes experimental music by herself. Iiris starts persuading him to try and make some music together, and she’s convinced that by joining forces, they’d be able to create something completely new and unique. Pauli, who has always sought perfection, is drawn to her chaotic energy and finds comfort in their sonic experiments.

LUNGOR (‘lungs’) is a staged work in three parts featuring twelve songs and poetic monologues about our time, our vulnerability, and our ability to keep breathing.
With choir, strings, flute, piano, and guitar, the personal and the societal are woven together into a musical and poetic whole about love, dignity, and the ultimate questions of life. The album LUNGOR was released on 15 November 2025 and is available both as a collection of song poems and as a music album.

Third Spaces Collective brings together artists from Indigenous and other diverse cultural backgrounds, with the central aim of developing new forms of intercultural artistic collaboration grounded by Indigenous values and approaches.
Drawing on diversity, difference, and indigeneity as core strengths, the collective creates new music in a collaborative third space.
This project is part of the University of the Arts Helsinki Sibelius Academy’s Voice and Justice Third Spaces project, led by Professor Nathan Riki Thomson and kindly supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation and Paloheimo Foundation.

Vuosaaren nuorten tuottamassa bänditapahtumassa kuullaan loppukesän tarttuvimmat riffit ja rosoisimmat säröt, kun neljä bändiä päästetään irti ja rokki soi!
VuoRock tuo lavalle neljä huikeaa nuorten bändiä, joiden musiikissa kuullaan metalli-, punk- ja heavy rock –soundeja.
Tapahtuma on tuotettu Vuosaaren nuorten omasta toimeliaisuudesta ja toiveista käsin. Tässä tapahtumassa pääsee moshaamaan ja fiilistelemään täysillä!

Neurosect on vantaalainen alotteleva metallibändi jolla on syksyn aikana tulossa omaa musiikkia.
Pill of Happiness
Pill Of happiness on suoraan Kontulasta puskeva metallimöykky, jonka ainut tehtävä on jakaa metallin ilosanomaa kaikille. Musiikki on maustettu erityisesti masentavilla teemoilla, joiden pyrkimyksenä on tavoittaa kaikki joita on joskus kohdeltu elämässä väärin.
Toisin kun normaali masennuslääke, Pill Of Happiness haluaa tuoda surun esiin. Bändi syntyi kahden vatipään Ossin ja Joelin yhteen lyömisestä, vaikka toki muut jäsenet liittyivät vasta, kun nämä kaksi nuorukaista sai selvittyä päänsärystään.
Bändin keula on hottis Matti, joka on saanut tehtäväkseen huutaa ja rämpyttää kitaraa niin kuin hullu. Lead-kitaran hoitaa Ossi mahdollisimman taidokkaasti. Rumpuja paukuttaa Joel niin lujaa, että korvat kiljuu vielä huomennakin. Viimeisenä muttei todellakaan vähäisimpänä on Tomi, joka hiplaa bassoa jykevästi. Koska yksi kieli ei riitä...

Kaksi jouluista työpajaa Vuotalon aulassa; toiseen pajaan voit tulla huovuttamaan värikkäitä palloja ja toisessa pajassa voit keskittyä valmistamaan valkoisen joulukuusen meikinpoistolapuista. Huopapallot sopivat vaikka koristeiksi joulukuuseen tai lahjapaketteihin. Valkoinen joulukuusi juhlistaa joulupöydän.
Työpajat on suunnattu nuorille ja aikuisille. Kuusipajassa käytämme kuumaliimaa, joten paja ei sovellu pienille lapsille. Maksuton, ei ilmoittautumista.

Tervetuloa tutustumaan Vuosaaren Seniorikorttelin kaavamuutokseen Vuotalon aulaan.
Asemakaavamuutoksen esittely ja pienoismalli ovat esillä aulassa 17.8.–4.9., ja aiheesta järjestetään avoin keskustelutilaisuus 26.8. klo 15.30–18.00 .
Vuosaari on asukasmäärältään Helsingin suurimpia kaupunginosia. Alueen ikääntyvä väestörakenne edellyttää omaa, keskustan yhteyksien ja palveluiden ääreen sijoittuvaa seniorikeskusta. Kaavaratkaisun tavoitteena on sijoittaa pääosin 6-kerroksinen seniorikeskus Vuosaaren keskusaukio Mosaiikkitorin reunaan kaupunkikuvallisesti ja toiminnallisesti onnistuneella tavalla.
Seniorikeskuksen suunnittelusta ja toteuttamisesta järjestetään kilpailutus syksyllä 2026. Korttelin länsi- ja itäpäätyihin sijoittuvat yleiset alueet tarjoavat kortteliin maanvaraista, istutettavaa pintaa sekä Mosaiikkitorin ja Tyynylaavantien yhdistävän porrasyhteyden.
Tyynylaavantie 15 tilapäinen velvoitepysäköinti sijaitsee seniorikeskuksen osoitetun kaavarajauksen sisällä. Asemakaavan laatimisajan erityisasumisen pysäköintivelvoitteet ovat keventyneet, mikä vähentää korttelin velvoitepysäköintipaikkatarvetta. Asemakaavan tavoite on mahdollistaa korttelin autopaikkojen sijoittuminen omalle tontille ajantasaisen pysäköinnin laskentaohjeen soveltamisen kautta.

Designed for seniors, HopeaCiné’s programme features new Finnish films, once a month.
Klaus Härö’s new film, Blue Baby , tells the story of two women who meet in the midst of a crisis in the care sector. Specialist nurse Inka (Laura Birn) carries out her work with great dedication, caught between demanding working conditions and the pressures of her own family life. Leni (Oona Airola) and Kari (Jussi Vatanen) see their happiness begin to crumble when their newborn baby is suddenly rushed to intensive care.
Nurses are planning a strike to demand better working conditions, and Leni, who is feeling confused in these uncertain times, finds support and hope in Inka. However, Inka is facing some difficult decisions. Both women are motivated by love and a sense of duty – but how can they make the right choice when their own lives and the lives of others are at stake?
Each HopeaCiné screening invites filmmakers or film experts as guests, who discuss the filmmaking process and offer fresh insights to deepen the viewing experience after the film. The guests will be announced at a later date. HopeaCiné screenings are also shown at Cinema Orion and Malmitalo.

Whistle Bait, originally from Hamina, are one of Finland’s longest-running rock bands. Last year, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary and are still going strong.
The party powerhouse, whose music is rooted in 50s and 60s rock’n’roll, are making a much-praised and in-demand special concert after a break of over ten years, focusing solely on the legendary Elvis Presley’s 1960s’ output, with an emphasis on the King’s lesser-heard movie songs!
Coming up are Viva Las Vegas, Kissin’ Cousins, Speedway and other gems – no capes or karate kicks, only magnificent music!

This exhibition features a diverse selection of works by residents of the artists’ residence.
Helsinki’s 450th-anniversary artists’ residence was completed in 2003 in Aurinkolahti, Vuosaari, and a large group of professionals from various artistic fields moved in. Over the years, the building has become a significant community for many of its residents, enabling them to focus on creative work and interaction.
Some of the artists featured in the Vuosaari House exhibition have been enjoying the scenery of Vuosaari ever since the building was completed, while others are newcomers.
The exhibition has been curated by Aino Favén, Tiina Karhu and Anna Wilhelmus. The exhibition is part of the ‘Vuosaari-seura 60 Years’ event.

Voimaeläin on vuorovaikutuksellinen ja lapsia osallistava tanssiteatteriesitys. Voimaeläimiä etsitään yhdessä yleisön kanssa Pohjolan eläimistä.
Esityksessä seikkailevat hahmot, Kaisla, Kiira ja Tuisku, lukevat faabeleita toisilleen. Faabeli on hyvin vanha kerrontamuoto, yleensä eläinsadun muotoon puettu ja moraalisen opetuksen sisältävä kertomus. Kaisla, Kiira ja Tuisku alkavat faabelien innoittamina etsiä omia voimaeläimiään.
Kaverukset uppoutuvat yhdessä faabelien eläintarinoiden maailmaan, kunnes Kiira esittelee ystävilleen jännittävät kortit. Alkaa voimaeläimien etsintä! Niitä etsitään Pohjolan eläimistä ja yleisö pääsee osallistumaan mukaan etsintään arvausleikin muodossa. Samalla tutustutaan omiin pohjoisiin eläimiimme, saadaan niistä tietoa ja kuullaan niihin liittyvistä uskomuksista.
Esitys herättää ajatuksia eläimen ja ihmisen arvosta. Mitä eläimen tulisi saada ihmiseltä? Mitä ihminen voi saada eläimeltä? Voimaeläin vahvistaa lapsen itsetuntoa ja toimijuutta yksilönä. Lapsi voi miettiä omia kykyjään ja voimiaan eläinten ominaisuuksien kautta.

Rock legend Michael Monroe is one of the most successful Finnish musicians in history.
The career of this energetic rock star, who marches to the beat of his own drum, began as the lead singer of Hanoi Rocks, which was formed in 1979. The band has served as a role model for many bands that have gone on to achieve international fame. Following the break-up of Hanoi Rocks in 1984, after the accidental death of drummer Razzle, Monroe embarked on a successful solo career. In its 2012 article, The Wall Street Journal described Monroe as one of the world’s most revered rock stars.
For over ten years now, Monroe has been collaborating with a highly talented band featuring Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, New York Dolls), Karl Rockfist (Glenn Danzig, Joan Osborne), Rich Jones (The Ginger Wildheart Band, The Black Halos) and Steve Conte (New York Dolls, The Crazy Truth).

This lecture explores places and people along the shores of Vartiokylänlahti over the past centuries, while also offering a glimpse into the area’s future.
In the Middle Ages, two villages sprang up on the shores of Vartiokylänlahti, which later became the Puotila and Rastila estates. The area was also home to a hill fort that once guarded an ancient strait.

The long-awaited new album Comeback by Jukka Poika, the leading name in Finnish reggae, brought an end to a ten-year hiatus from releasing albums and marked the start of a new chapter in the artist’s career.
In the artist’s own words, the album features “Finnish reggae in 2026” – a familiar, recognisable sound given a modern twist by its determined energy and international influences.
“The album features songs about being with yourself and with others, as well as a few lines about being a society. Sometimes a song starts from a thought, but often I let the rhymes take me to places I wouldn’t otherwise have explored,” , says Jukka Poika about the album.
In this new era, Jukka Poika sounds both familiar and fresh. The gentle groove is still there, but it has been joined by a sharper sound than before. The album’s first single, ‘Stand Back’, released in January, showed that the public is ready for this next chapter.
We can look forward to more music, new releases and an active live show schedule in the future.

Designed for seniors, HopeaCiné’s programme features new Finnish films once a month.
Each screening invites filmmakers or film experts as guests, who will discuss the filmmaking process and offer fresh insights to deepen the viewing experience after the film.
Inspired by true events, The Kidnapping of a President transports the viewer into the heart of absurd events in 1930. During a night of heavy drinking, a group of ambitious officers decide to kidnap Finland’s first president – the already retired K. J. Ståhlberg. Ester Ståhlberg, the president’s headstrong wife, refuses to leave her husband’s side even in those dire circumstances, and instead stubbornly insists on getting into the backseat of the car with the kidnappers. An incredible journey begins through a turbulent Finland, where rumours and history are intertwined – and even now, it remains unclear what was fact and what was fiction in the president’s kidnapping.

The Kohti tuntematonta (‘Towards the Unknown’) exhibition and workshop invites schoolchildren to embark on adventures in imaginative worlds.
The workshops are intended for children in grades 3–6. The workshops utilise literary and visual art to explore an exhibition consisting of Pasi Pitkänen’s skilful illustrations and the worlds that they present. The aim is to inspire the attendees to experience books and reading from a fresh, participatory and multidisciplinary perspective.
In the workshop, the class is split in two, with half taking part in the literary art workshop and the other half in the art workshop, and then vice versa. This way, everyone gets to work with both words and images.
The workshop is held in Finnish and lasts 1.5 hours in total.

Matka käärmejunassa literary art session
In the Matka käärmejunassa (‘Journey on the Snake Train’) session, we explore Silja Sillanpää and Pasi Pitkänen’s book Ouroboros, perform some literary art exercises and solve riddles.
During the session, we think about matters such as what sort of equipment the pupils would take with them on an adventure, look for our own snake friends, and write a short travelogue. Escape room style activities punctuate the session and encourage pupils to participate.

Let us be creative together! Come and make beautiful and practical decorations and develop your craft skills.
We hold art workshops with varying themes in the Vuosaari House lobby on Wednesdays once a month. The art workshops are suitable for children and adults alike. You will be provided with the necessary materials on site.
The art workshops are instructed by visual artist Chloé Mahy-Hulkko. The instruction languages are Finnish, English and French.
Entry to the workshops is free of charge!

Wednesday 26 August, 16.00–18.00 | Fabric, collage and embroidery
We make a colourful fabric collage by using recycled fabrics. We build the collage from canvas bags, using an iron to glue the fabrics together. Children under the age of 8 may only participate if accompanied by an adult. If you want to, you can continue decorating the bag with embroidery.
Wednesday 23 September at 16.00–18.00 | Press print graphics
We try out a simple and fun relief printing technique. We use a pen to carve a design into the press print sheet, apply paint with a roller and then use our palms to create the print.
Wednesday 21 October at 16.00–18.00 | Autumn leaves in a mirror
We sketch tree leaves in pencil. We use a mirror to study symmetry in nature.
Wednesday 25 November at 16.00–18.00 | Stars of many kinds
Using string and coloured cardboard, we make beautiful star decorations to brighten up the darkes...

Näyttelijä Johanna Ringbomin ja muusikko Iiro Salmen uusi musiikkituotanto keskittyy lauluntekijä ja muusikko Olle Adolphsonin hienoon tuotantoon.
Konsertissa kuullaan tunnettuja lauluja, kuten ”Mitt eget land” ja ”Trubbel”, mutta myös vähemmän tunnettuja kappaleita. Ohjelmistossa on 8–9 laulua, joiden välissä kurkistamme Adolphsonin elämään ja luomistyöhön; hänen monitahoiseen, herkkään ja levottomaan luonteeseensa.
Adolphson omin sanoin: ”Parasta, mitä minunlaiselleni voi tapahtua, on se, että laulu saa siivet, lentää ylös ja jättää luojansa. Silloin siitä tulee kansanlaulu, ja se on suurin kunnia.”

Kuinka tehdä näkymätön näkyväksi taiteen kautta?
Näyttelymme keskeisinä teemoina ovat mielenterveyskriisi, mielenterveys- ja päihdeongelmat, stigma, sosiaalisesti kestävä kehitys sekä yhdenvertaisuus ja osallisuus. Moniäänisen näyttelymme tavoitteena on herättää ajatuksia, tunteita, kysymyksiä ja keskustelua ajankohtaisesta ja tärkeästä aiheesta ja yhteiskuntamme tilanteesta.
Teossarja antaa äänen järjestöjen asiantuntijoille, muille mielenterveys- ja päihdetyön ammattilaisille ja heille, keille mielenterveys- ja päihdeongelmat ovat tuttuja omasta arkitodellisuudesta. Haluamme edistää dialogia ja lisätä tietoisuutta. Pyrimme purkamaan teemoihin liittyvää stigmaa ja vaikenemisen kulttuuria. Avun tarve on kasvava. Keskeistä on yhteiskuntamme valmius ja tahtotila tunnistaa ja hoitaa ongelmien syitä ja vastata avun tarpeeseen. Tarvitaan inhimillistä kohtaamista ja empatiaa.

Merityövoiman edunvalvonnalle oli 1700-luvun jälkipuoliskolla tarve. Työ merellä oli kovaa, kuluttavaa ja vaarallista ja leskiä oli paljon.
Viaporin linnoitustyömaa oli vilkastuttanut kaupungin elinkeinotoimintaa ja kauppamerenkulkua sekä kasvattanut merenkulusta elantonsa saavien määrää. Helsingin kauppalaivaston tonnisto kasvoi ja matkat pitenivät. Helsinkiläislaiva Anders Johan Nordenskiöld ylitti ensimmäisenä vuonna 1769 Atlantin. Helsingin merimieshuone oli yksi Viaporin linnoitustyömaan mukanaan tuomista sosiaalisista innovaatioista.
