Cover Her is a kaleidoscopic experience of music, movement, dance, and storytelling, based on the enigmatic rituals of medieval Iberia. It is an exploration of womanhood, strength, female identity, and emancipation. The work explores these ideas through the stories of medieval virgin martyrs and the present day MeToo movement. It taps into the dualities and paradoxes of past and present, freedom and entrapment, and death and renewal.
Supported by the NWO (Dutch Research Council), an award-winning team of international musicians, contemporary dancer, actor, and composer have come together with academic historians from Radboud University in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) to create this daring new work.
The music is composed by Litha Efthymiou, whose works have been performed by several prestigious orchestras, chamber groups and soloists, such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Ligeti string quartet, and in venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, Kings Place, Southbank Centre, and broadcast on BBC radio 3.

Taidehistorioitsija-kirjailija Anna Kortelainen on rakentanut historialliseen viitekehykseen koomisia elementtejä sisältävän käsikirjoituksen. Monia tyylilajeja hyödyntävän musiikin esitykseen on säveltänyt Olli Kortekangas.
Näyttämöllä nähdään cembalisti-näyttelijä Elina Mustonen (Ida Aalberg), oopperalaulaja Reetta Ristimäki (Aino Ackté), tv-influensserina musikaalinäyttelijä Heljä Heikkinen ja studio-ohjaajana pianisti Anu Silvasti.

Helsinki Contemporary Opera Festival is presenting two opera performances on the same night at the Alexander Theatre.
Mozart & Salieri:
The core of the work lies in the encounter between genius and jealousy: what happens when extraordinary talent awakens conflicting emotions in another person? This chamber opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is based on a text by Alexander Pushkin and explores the myth surrounding Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.
On stage, the audience encounters a chamber opera where music and drama merge into an intimate whole. The form is concentrated, focusing on the tension between two characters.
Zanetto:
The final moments of a 1960s film star’s tragic life, in which men from her past emerge from her memories—an athlete, a director, and a politician.
Mascagni is one of the central composers of the Italian opera tradition, and his works are known in particular for their straightforward melodies and intense emotional expression.
The work is now brought to life through a new interpretation and direction, combining Mascagni’s melodic beauty and emotionally powerful expression with the final moments of a 1960s film star’s life and characters from the past.

Kuka vatsasta lopulta putkahtaa?
Skenografia: Elle Mikkola
Lavastuksen toteutus: Aniisia Kronidova
Esiintyjät:
Mathilda Kruse (Heinähattu)

Song from the Uproar: The Lives and Deaths of Isabelle Eberhardt, composed by Missy Mazzoli, is a hypnotic and visually rich opera that takes the viewer to the heart of the life of an extraordinary woman.
The work is based on the diaries and texts of the Swiss-born adventurer, writer and explorer Isabelle Eberhardt (1877–1904), which glow with freedom, restlessness and a burning desire to cross borders.
Orphaned at a young age, Isabelle abandons Europe and heads for the deserts of North Africa, living as a nomad, often dressed as a man, searching for her place in the world and within herself.

Maria Koskivirta's new movie to watch for free at the Forum Box gallery.
The Universe Is a Machine explores the idea of reality as mechanical, automatic and perhaps indifferent; it challenges the idea that the universe is alive, magical or spiritually meaningful, but rather cold and predetermined – like a machine running without emotion or meaning.
The film consists of a series of slowly evolving, fragmented visual sequences. Its pacing is deliberately measured and lacks narrative resolution, maintaining a continuous but non-linear flow.
The film builds itself out of residues: liminal architectural voids, torn skin under macro gaze, a beam of light scanning, searching, failing to land. Reflecting on dissemination of the body and space as well as noting this idea of disembodiment, the shots collected are intended to take apart elements; to reveal loss – to shed light on disappearance.
The language of the film hovers between prayer, warning and resignation – fragments drawn from personal loss and collective tragedy. Ultimately, the text illuminates the loss of autonomy, as the speech accepts mechanical inevitability and offers suicide as the final act of existential freedom; understanding violence not as an event, but as a structure.
