Poetic reality – exhibition on the romantic and cheerful art, fashion, design and gardens of the 1920–1940s.
Many artists and designers longed for beauty, ornaments and vibrant colours during the interwar period. Flowers, gardens and paradise were common motifs.
One of the exhibition’s main themes is French post-impressionism from the 1920–1940s, the so called “painters of the poetic reality” (Les peintres de la réalité poétique).
These painters would paint art in a poetic and cheerful style, taking impressions from Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard. Many Finnish artists who spent time in Paris, such as Tove Jansson, Birger Carlstedt and Yngve Bäck, were influenced by this art.

The Didrichsen Art Museum presents the first exhibition ever in Finland devoted to the work of William Morris (1834–1896).
Morris was a reformer of design and a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, whose rich and fairy-tale-like wallpapers and textiles remain timeless even today.
The exhibition’s objects and original sketches are on loan from the collections of the William Morris Gallery and the William Morris Society in the United Kingdom.

This exhibition delves into the bold and multifaceted world of the beloved artist Elin Danielson-Gambogi (1861–1919).
Her works reveal the artist’s exploration of the roles of woman, artist, and individual at the crossroads of two cultures, and how she built her identity through art at a time when women were not yet allowed that right.
Danielson’s self-portraits, intimate depictions of everyday life, and the tensions within her gazes tell a story of self-discovery and the defense of one’s own voice – themes that continue to resonate today.

During a 15-minute reading session, you can read aloud to Reading Dog Luna. Luna listens patiently without criticising or interrupting.

Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) oli yksi 1900-luvun merkittävimmistä oopperasäveltäjistä, joka uudisti englantilaista oopperaa yhdistämällä modernin ilmaisun ja vahvan draaman.
Luennoilla tutustutaan hänen keskeisiin teoksiinsa, kuten Peter Grimes, Billy Budd ja The Turn of the Screw. Näiden kautta perehdytään myös siihen, kuinka Britten käsittelee itselleen keskeisiä teemoja, kuten ulkopuolisuus, syyllisyys ja yksilön suhde yhteisöön.

Come and get to know the Aaltos’ in depth by attending a drawing workshop! In the drawing workshop organised by the Alvar Aalto Foundation, you can unleash your creativity and get inspired by pioneers of modernism: Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto.
No previous sketching experience is required—everyone is welcome!
The workshop begins with an introduction of the Aaltos’s design philosophy and their relationship to different materials. Participants are also given the opportunity to take a look at some of their sketches. After that, it’s time to draw: you can either design your own “future classic” or sketch the surrounding space.
All necessary tools are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your favourite sketching materials along. However, it is best to leave inks and charcoals at home to protect the light-coloured surfaces of the studio.

Experience a 1950’s Christmas in the drawing room and dining room of Signe and Ane Gyllenberg’s former home.
The dining room table is set with a French Limoges festive porcelain and the drawing room displays a traditional dessert and coffee setting. The Christmas tree in the drawing room is decorated with real glass decorations.
The exhibition has been reconstructed according to old family photo albums.

The new exhibition opening at Villa Gyllenberg presents a rare opportunity to glimpse the impressive art collection belonging to Sampo Group. Approximately 50 works have been selected from Sampo’s collection of over 1000 works to be displayed classically.
The exhibition presents 19th-century landscape paintings, works from the Golden Age of Finnish art, 20th-century abstract art, and paintings and sculptures from the 1980s and 1990s.
The Sampo insurance company was founded in 1909. The company has purposefully collected art for its business premises and offices, especially in the 1970s–1990s. The collection has acquired numerous classics of Finnish painting, as well as examples of high-quality non-representational art.
