The photographs depict the construction of the new Hakaniemi Bridge between 2022 and 2025.
Rather than presenting a chronological account, the exhibition invites viewers to follow the rhythm, events, and labour of the building process. Through the images, visitors are encouraged to pause and reflect on the unfinished and to see the city as a changing entity – one in which the builder carries out their work and gradually guides our steps onto new paths.
The exhibition will be on display from May 7 to August 31, 2026, at the City of Helsinki’s office building (Työpajankatu 8, lobby exhibition space).

KYLE ALESSANDRO (NO)

Old Forest Echoes – Ikimetsän kaiku is a concert experience grown from a desire to protect the old-growth forests of Finland.
It is the vision of internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Barbora Xu (Barbora Šilhánová), who, after four months of artistic research in these forests, now brings her nature-inspired music to urban audiences as an immersive indoor experience. With kantele, Chinese zither and voice at its core, accompanied by video and sounds of the woods, the concert brings the atmosphere of Finnish old-growth forests into the city.
The performance takes place within an indoor forest installation made from natural materials by environmental artist Tommi Laine . A soundscape installation by Mikko Haapoja combines field recordings from Barbora’s time in the forest with footage captured by cinematographer Ville Tanttu .
Working group:
Barbora Xu/Barbora Šilhánová : director, nature music artist
Mikko H. Haapoja : soundscape installation and sound technician
Ville Tanttu : video projections
Tommi Laine : environmental artist, indoors forest installation
Milla Aalto : forests expert
Carly Markkanen : producer
Supported by Kone Foundation in collaboration with Luontoliitto.
Talk and workshops
The 60-minute concert is complemented on Saturday 31 October by a pre-performance talk on Finnish old-growth forests by forests expert Milla Aalto of Luontoliitto (The Finnish Nature Association). On Sunday 1 November, music workshops for different audiences, including a l...

It’s time to get ready for a night where musical boundaries are pushed to the absolute limit. This September, we’re bringing something completely different to the Finnish scene: an event where traditional Gabber culture collides with the extreme end of the genre’s spectrum – Speedcore.
This is not a typical hardcore event, but a raw confrontation of two worlds, where only a wall separates harmony from chaos.
In September, you’ll experience what it feels like when two extremes clash:
• Gabber side: On this floor, we’ll be enjoying the finest moments of Early Hardcore. The atmosphere is handled entirely by domestic Finnish artists, making sure the Gabber spirit stays high and the vibe is exactly as nostalgic as it should be. 909
• Speedcore side: On the other side of the wall, the rules change. Arriving straight from Italy on their 10-year anniversary tour is the Speedcore Italia collective. These guys are coming to show, with a full stage presence, just how fast music can go when the throttle is truly wide open. The pace will dive deep into the most extreme realms of Speedcore and Extratone.
The perfect contrast : you can take a brutal beating in the merciless tempo of our Italian guests, then retreat behind the wall to “cool down” with the Early sounds delivered by Finland’s finest.

Caisa's Art for Toddlers workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays introduce children to the world of visual arts through painting, colours and sculpting.
Tuesdays, 1 September–22 December, 13:30–15:30 .
Thursdays, 3 September–17 December, 10:00–12:00 .
There will be no workshops on Tuesday, 13 October, and Thursday, 15 October, during the autumn holiday week.
The workshops inspire and guide adults and children to make and experience art together. Together with their adult, children may get to know different art materials and techniques, which are placed in different points of the studio space. The space always has easels and the opportunity to sculpt. Children can work at their own pace and get to know the crafting points that change weekly.
The workshops aim to give children the opportunity to try their own art-making and develop social skills with other children. The attachment of child and adult is strengthened in a playful and creative environment.
The workshop is led by art educator Eungyung Kim.

Taiteilijakollektiivi juhlii yhteisöllisyyttä ja yhteenkuuluvuutta. Kollektiivissa kannustetaan eri taiteiden muotojen yhdistämiseen, musiikkigenrejen sekoittamiseen, kokeiluun ja kielten diversiteettiin.

EMILII on eksistentiaalinen kriisi kiedottuna elektroniseen soundiin.
Kaisla Ollila on minimusikaali lavalla ja luonnossa.

Daniel Palpa’s ceramic sculptures explore manifestations of a dual cultural identity – from a wellspring of creativity to a wasteland of identity.
The artist draws on traditional ceramic forms from the Peru region and blends them with his own everyday experiences. The works comment on today’s concerns through colour and chaotic forms. They highlight the influences of Peruvian and Finnish cultures and the tension between them in the artist’s life.
The works stem from the experience of a bicultural identity. A central dilemma for the artist’s identity has been consolidating the cultures of two continents and their respective histories. The sense of isolation that arose when he arrived in Finland as a child has remained with him ever since, whilst his South American roots have endured and given shape to a third cultural perspective.
This space between two cultures serves as either a source of creativity or a wasteland of identity. What remains is a form of cultural hybrid living that challenges established assumptions and draws on the friction between differing values. The works seek to express the experience of a multi-layered identity, which is familiar to many bicultural children and adults living in Finland.

Memoirs of Mud is an absurdly playful contemporary circus adventure, where acrobatics, mud and imaginative objects collide the natural and the artificial.
Nature and artificiality – two supposed opposites – come together in Based on Kimberly’s Memoirs of Mud .
In a playful, provocative, and adventurous circus show two performers explore nothing less than life in all its complexity. Relentlessly and with acrobatic virtuosity, they navigate through sterile living environments and muddy terrain. They balance on swinging trapezes and fight with antlers made of ginger, transform handbags into greenhouses and potatoes into crowns. In this bizarre universe, there are no limits to absurdity and playfulness.

Suddenly is a solo work by Kerttu Opus and Opus Company, weaving together magic, circus and theatre into an exploration of change, loss and growth.
What does it feel like to let change wash over you? Suddenly – and other ways to change tells a story about the performer’s life, while aiming to speak to some universal experience of the contradictions of personal growth. The performance utilizes magic, circus and theatre to examine the idea of constantly shedding away old layers of yourself. In a way it is something we all want, to be better versions of ourselves and yet it is a process we rarely have control over. The show investigates the grief that accompanies such events and the themes of loss, pain and deep joy in the turmoil of the changing self.

Opus Company was founded by Kerttu and Adam Opus in 2022. The company is based in Tampere and they are interested in unusual definitions of circus and circus creation as a collaborative tool.
Central to their artistic exploration is the concept of circus dramaturgy—an approach that delves into the psychological and emotional dimensions of the human experience. 'Our performances question the traditional confines of circus, exploring the realms of illusion and blurring the lines between what is real and wh...

Cinemaissí promotes appealing, thought-provoking, and novel Latin American cinema in Finland.
Through film screenings, conversations, and other encounters, the festival offers a platform for the exhibition of Latin American culture, politics, and society. It showcases contemporary films from Latin America and the Caribbean by both emerging and renowned directors.
For two decades, Cinemaissí has created a unique cultural space that strengthens dialogue between Finland and Latin America, as well as with Spain and Portugal, whose shared languages and cultural ties enrich the festival’s framework. As we embark on our third decade, Cinemaissí’s goal is to promote integration and empathy through culture, making Latin America visible and relatable within the Finnish context.
The festival has become an established part of Helsinki’s cultural offer, not only for Latin American communities but also for Finnish audiences and other international communities.
The detailed programme and ticket sales information will be updated on the href="https://www.cinemaissi.com/">Cinemaissí website .

Jussi Rinta-Hoiska’s work has focused on social topics for almost 20 years. This exhibition features a selection of old and new photo and video works.
“My first art photograph, Lukosta valoon (‘From Lock to Light’), was completed in 2006. Almost 20 years have passed since then.
The works in the exhibition tell the story of a young girl’s journey. At first, the girl doesn’t know which way to go. She lacks information and feels like an outsider. Eventually, the girl finds a key and manages to free herself from the containment.
On her journey, the girl explores society and herself. She goes from darkness into light, learns to understand her own life and finds self-confidence through language. In the end, she grows stronger and carries on.”
A guided tour of the exhibition will be held in Finnish Sign Language on Saturday 22 August 2026 at 13.00–14.00.

Borrowed Cities is a site-specific audio-walk that leads audiences on a guided tour through Helsinki.
The performance sets off from Cultural Centre Caisa on the courtyard of Kaikukatu 4 B.
The work uses the city itself as the stage for exploring how ecological loss and migration unsettle our sense of place. By projecting fragments of endangered cities onto the streets of Helsinki, the piece challenges the idea that crises belong only to their locations and suggests that cities absorb stories, griefs, and futures from far away.
The narratives of the ones whose lives have been shaped by ecological trauma – local communities, immigrants, and others with lived experience of environmental instability, guide the walk and allow Helsinki to be seen through their perspective. By walking together, the work tries to create a shared space of listening, care, and cross-cultural understanding.
What does it mean to carry multiple geographies within one body? How can memory reveal the uneven realities of climate injustice?

Poetry has always been bound to moments of crisis, bearing witness to histories of loss, war, and cruelty.
Living in a time with no shortage of atrocities, we are confronted with a question: How is poetry actually able to survive, let alone thrive, in such conditions?
Powerful global superpowers continue to shape the conditions in which current conflicts unfold, and in which they are being narrated. At the same time, artists, activists, and communities face increasing pressure through surveillance, censorship, and repression.
The terrain is fraught and uncertain for anyone working in the literary field today. Can poetry still intervene meaningfully in the present? What space remains for dissent, for ambiguity, for care? The discussion will reflect on the possibilities and limits of poetry in a time of crisis: what it means to write, and read, under the pressures of today.
This discussion brings together three writers working across different geographies and practices: Molly Ripatti , writer and coordinator currently studying at Trinity College Dublin; DC Restaino , a London-based writer originally from Texas; and A.V. Marraccini , a New York–based critic, writer, and historian of art. The conversation will be moderated by Kimmo Kallio . Readings by Ripatti and Restaino will also take place later the same evening as part of Caisa Poetry Night.
The language of the discussion is English.
We assume an adult audience, but the Runokuu / Poetry Moon events have no age restriction.

Helsinki Poetics Conference is an open, seminar-style event aimed at poets, writers, and literary scholars, as well as anyone interested in questions of poetics.
The conference continues the tradition of the Helsinki Poetics Conference, founded 20 years ago as a parallel event to Runokuu (Poetry Moon) and held in various forms and venues between 2005 and 2012. The aim of the Poetics Conference is to foster dialogue between researchers, poets, artists from other fields, and the public.
The theme of the 2026 Poetry Moon Poetics Conference is breath . The theme opens up perspectives on the rhythm and language of poetry, as well as more broadly on experiences of being, embodiment, and shared space. Breath can be understood as a biological, political, and aesthetic phenomenon: a continuous exchange in and out, between the individual and the environment.
The speakers are Jonis Hartman, A. V. Marraccini, Merima Dizdarević, Antti Salminen and Berta García Faet .
The languages of the event are English and Finnish.
Free admission.
The events assume an adult audience but have no age restriction.

OLEMA is a contemporary circus performance exploring and attuning itself to the experience of connection and the undoing of anthropocentrism.
The piece takes its inspiration from the story of an extinct bird, whose solitary song ends in silence. On the stage, acrobatics, dance, music and visual art meld together. The performance asks, what is left after a loss, and if what has been lost can still be found in the body, voice, and movement.
**
Circus offers a singular context for this inquiry: its history is entwined with the thresholds between the human and the more-than-human – from the serpent-like contortionists (käärmeihminen, ‘snake-human’ in Finnish), to beast tamers, and legacies of bodily dehumanisation.
The dramaturgical core of the work grows from the extinction story of the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird species. The last male of the species continued to sing its duet-form mating call even after the last female had disappeared in a hurricane in 1982. In the 1987 recording by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, heard during the performance, ever-lengthening silences open within the song – spaces for another voice to enter, a voice that no longer answers.
On stage, the circus artists move at the thresholds of acrobatics, dance, balance, and a corporeality that reaches toward the more-than-human. The electroacoustic music brings forth the pulse of the living and the finality of extinction. The work of costume desig...

DEAD POET SOCIETY ARRIVES AT TIIVISTÄMÖ IN MARCH 2027
American band Dead Poet Society, known for their genre-defying alternative rock sound, will perform in Finland for the first time when they take the stage at Tiivistämö on Friday, March 5, 2027.
Formed in Boston and fronted by Jack Underkofler, Dead Poet Society seamlessly blends influences from hard rock, grunge, blues rock, and alternative rock. Their debut EP Axiom , released in 2015, introduced the band's raw and energetic style, which was followed by the critically acclaimed debut album -!- (2021). Their recently released new single Sinner Systems ranks among the quartet's most infectious tracks to date, while continuing to develop their dark, riff-driven sound.
In recent years, Dead Poet Society has appeared at major rock festivals including Louder Than Life and Welcome to Rockville, and the band has toured extensively both as a headliner and alongside acts such as Highly Suspect, Badflower, and The Warning. In March 2027, Finnish audiences will have their first opportunity to experience Dead Poet Society's dark yet melodically captivating sonic world live.

Jokainen klubi-illan osallistuja saa illan aikana kirjeen, jonka joku esiintyjistä on kirjoittanut. Klubi-illan toteuttavat yhdessä gaykuoro Out ’n loud ja Helsingin queer-feministinen kuoro, HQFK.
Queerly Yours! on yhteisökokemus: lämmin halaus ja musiikillinen kirje “kaikilta meiltä, kaikille meille”. Tähän konserttiin jokainen on tervetullut juuri sellaisena omana itsenään kuin on!
Out ’n loud on Suomen ensimmäinen gaykuoro, joka on vuodesta 2004 alkaen tuonut estradeille iloa, tunnetta ja yhteisöllistä voimaa. Viime vuonna 20-vuotista taivaltaan juhlinut kuoro tunnetaan energisistä esiintymisistään ja monipuolisesta ohjelmistostaan. Out ‘n loud herättää kappaleen kuin kappaleen eloon omalla karismallaan, kun lavalle nousee yli 30 gaykuorolaisen joukko.
Helsingin queer-feministinen kuoro, HQFK on vuonna 2022 perustettu yhteisökuoro, joka pyrkii musiikissaan löytämään oman ainutlaatuisen äänensä sekä sävelten avulla murskaamaan patriarkaatin epätasa-arvoistavat rakenteet ja kankeat binääriset jaottelut – unohtamatta tietysti valoa ja iloa, joita yhteinen ja rakas sateenkaareva musiikkiharrastus tuo mukanaan!

Nykytanssiteos kahden transnaisen siskoudesta.
Traces of Your Skin on nykytanssiteos kahden transnaisen välisestä siskoudesta.

The international contemporary dance festival Moving in November celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026.
The festival is an invitation to come together and experience works by international and local artists, whose critical thinking, visions, experiences, and dreams open small windows onto the world we are living in.
Caisa is an important partner of the festival and a central venue. The festival programme, ticket sales, and registration for the Audience Club and Soup Talks will open in mid-September.
If you wish to deepen your engagement with dance and performance, you are welcome to join the Audience Club , a group that follows the festival programme together. The Audience Club offers facilitated discussions, creative tasks, and guided exercises that support exchange and foster connections with both the works and fellow audience members.
Another way to engage with the programme is by joining Soup Talks , a series of informal conversations with artists presenting their work during the festival. Visiting artists meet a local artist and the audience around a bowl of soup and conversation. Everybody is invited to listen, ask questions, and take part in the discussion. Soup Talks are organised in collaboration with Caisa.
Moving in November takes place from 5 to 15 November 2026.

Since 2017, MAR/MÆR have explored Camouflage Strategies through performances in public space. The first work was created along the wall of Lapeyrouse Cemetery in Port of Spain during the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.
The most recent performance took place in Søndermarken, Copenhagen, in collaboration with oak trees, lichens, and the BLOOM Festival. A video exhibition at the SOLU Bioart Society presents documentation of the processes of the performance works.
The Camouflage performance series emerged from a desire to disappear completely — to dissolve into the surroundings and become one with the site.
Drawing on camouflage strategies found in the animal world, the artists explore camouflage as a way of transcending the boundaries between bodies and space. In doing so, perception becomes unsettled, and the experience of space is rendered fluid and unstable.
The practice evokes expressions of in-betweenness and creatureliness. The current research turns toward lichens as companions in being-with, thinking-with, and performing-with, seeking new ways of understanding the complexities of symbiosis through interspecies collaboration.
MAR/MÆR is a performance art duo formed by Mari Pitkänen and Kaja Mærk Egeberg.

Re-Charge is an electrifying bodily catalogue for alternative energy production. Re-Charge charges from love, for love.
It is part of a larger project Charge, that takes place in various neighbourhoods and communities as performances, workshops, encounters.
The joy of dance, embodiment of community and international collaboration lie at the heart of the multiyear project.
Re-Charge is a site-specific dance piece that researches ways of charging and embodies a human battery. The dance piece gets its inspiration from superheroes, beat & music - techno / drum&bass / electrodance / amapiano / nollypiano / dubstep / …, exhaustion of body and mind, euphoria of dance, Formula 1 and acceleration, video games and trancelike repetition – from energy that recreates energy. The work scrutinises the unsustainable western energy production at large and searches for playful ways to be its own bionic light and fleshy battery.
Re-Charge is specifically lit up by love. Love as the real human superpower functions as a glue of the performance filtered in various ways, taking different forms and intensities. The bodies of the superheroes vibrate, yearn and pulsate radically changing something deep inside. Many parallel paths cross and coexist, there is order in chaos and hears beat – you can´t switch them off if you wanted to. Come recharge in a bath of multilayered emotions and vibrate the night away with some ferocious dancing!...
