Welcome to Ebony Steel Band, a pioneering force in the world of steelpan music in Europe. Established in 1969, we stand as one of the UK's earliest steel bands, founded by a passionate group of Caribbean and British individuals united by their love for steelpan music. Our mission is to promote the rich cultural heritage of steelpan music across the UK and Europe.
Ebony's remarkable legacy includes an unprecedented 23 victories at the National Panorama competition during Notting Hill Carnival, with an incredible eleven consecutive wins, a feat unmatched by any other band. In recognition of our outstanding contributions, we were honored with the prestigious Queen’s Award in 2005 for our dedicated service to the community spanning over 18 years.
Beyond our illustrious achievements in competition, Ebony is committed to fostering artistic expression and community engagement through a diverse range of activities and workshops suitable for individuals of all ages. Under the esteemed leadership of Augustine 'Pepe' Francis MBE, who assumed the role of Band Chairman in 1971 and Director in 2005, Ebony has soared to unprecedented heights. With over fifty years of dedicated leadership, Pepe continues to guide the fifth generation of Ebony Steel Band players.
Our legacy includes an unparalleled twenty-three victories at the UK National Panorama competition, with an extraordinary nine-year consecutive win streak from 1991 to 1999. Renowned pannist and arranger Annise 'Halfers' Hadeed played a pivotal role in our Panorama successes, collaborating with Ebony from 1989 to 2009.

London based DJ Natty B is the award-winning presenter of ‘The Official Reggae Chart Show’. Master of the airwaves for compiling and counting down the UK’s ONLY official reggae chart.
This chart is published in the weekly newspaper ‘The Gleaner’; he has also graced many other radio stations including Choice FM, Kiss FM, WNK Radio and FLR.
A highly respected DJ, he is a member of the people’s favourite ‘Studio-One’ sound and has also played on some of the biggest sound systems, both in the UK and abroad, alongside other lauded winning DJs.
From running his own talent agency in the 80s/90s (promoting British Reggae artists such as the late, great Deborah Glasgow, Janet Lee Davis, Chyna Black, CJ Lewis, Winsome, Mike Anthony, Peter Hunningale and Tippa Irie) to penning regular columns for ‘The Voice’ newspaper – Natty B has literally ‘been there, done that’, sitting comfortably at the fore-front of this, ‘The Reggae game’.

Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, Musician and Educator, has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to the UK in December 1995. Having started his musical career with Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 band in his teens, he then teamed up with childhood friend Fela's son Femi Kuti (back in the late eighties) to kick start the Positive Force - touring, recording and performing worldwide.
Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world. His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.
Hackney-born and UK-based Dele has performed all over the planet, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to Mawazine Festival in Rabat Morrocco; Ollin Khan in Mexico, South Korea and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Dele was also Afrobeat music consultant for the National Theatre's production of Fela!, often performing with fellow-pioneer Tony Allen. Dele’s pioneering musicality has also spawned collaborations with an impressive range of artists, including Estuary 21 (Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly), electronic artists Medlar and Qness, the afro-latin Cubafrobeat, Lokkhi Terra, and Eparapo, led by DSAO bassist, composer and producer Suman Joshi. These collaborations have spawned an impressive discography, ranging from his solo album "You No Fit Touch Am" to the brand new LP ‘The Confluence’ with Estuary 21.

Get ready for a soulful evening with the charismatic soul singer Wayne Hernandez who always gets the audience going with his infectious energy and amazingly powerful voice. He has a tight backing band that perform a repertoire of all-time soul and funk classics by Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and even the odd reggae track by Bob Marley. Wayne himself is hugely successful session singer who has worked with the likes of Billy Ocean , Blur, Tina Turner, Madonna and the Gorillaz.
Wayne Hernandez is one of those fantastic singers who has been using his considerable talents for many years to make others sound good. Hugely successful within the music business he has worked with Tina Turner, Tori Amos, Blur, Grover Washington, Roberta Flack, Madonna and Rag'n'Bone Man. He has also toured extensively with Kool and the Gang, Regina Bell and most recently Billy Ocean, and is one of the singers with the band Gorillaz (oh, that guy!). Of Afro-Cuban heritage, Wayne is a long-time member of the London Community Gospel Choir and more recently the Kingdom Choir, who took the world by storm after performing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In addition, Wayne resided in New York for a number of years and describes his music as “…a living fusion of music styles from the Black music scene”. Ray Gelato and the Giants at Soul Mama Islington.
The Godfather of Swing Mr Ray Gelato has been taking his special brand of swing, jazz and R&B music all over the world since 1988. This multi-talented singer, saxman, songwriter and band leader has appeared at festivals, clubs and concert stages from Brazil to New York City.
He has also performed for the late HM The Queen (twice), opened for Robbie Williams at the Albert Hall, and was chosen to play at Sir Paul McCartney’s wedding. Ray is very proud to number Van Morrison among his many fans.
The band have played most of the top jazz festivals including Montreal , The Lincoln Centre in New York and numerous appearances at Umbria Jazz in Italy . Ray has also played some of the most prestigious clubs in the world including Birdland in New York and The Blue Note in Milan.
Highlights include concerts at The Blue Note in Milan, Umbria Jazz’s 50th anniversary, Ronnie Scott’s and Umbria Winter Jazz.

In 2022, he made waves by reaching The Voice UK semi-finals on Team Anne-Marie. TJA
An R&B and Soul Artist with a deep rooted love for country and Reggae music, she brings a unique mix of sounds, each track standing on its own while showcasing her wide-ranging influences and creative freedom. On stage, TJA aims to uplift, inspire self-empowerment, especially for women, and encourage her audience to reflect on their lives and embrace positive change.
LFay
A lyricist & vocalist from the rural ends of Norfolk. Her sound is a combination of Old School Hip Hop and Urban Jazz, citing influences as broad as Amy Winehouse, Little Simz, Etta James, MF Doom & Notorious B.I.G.
She weaves aspects of New-Wave Jungle & DnB into her more recent work - creating a sound that unites polarised audiences as it skips between genres.
Her lyricism is a series of playful observations addressing the effects that isolating circumstances have on a young mind.
