The remarkable creative journey of one of Ireland’s most celebrated contemporary artists, who emerged from the anarchic post-punk energy of Dublin’s late-1970s music scene before turning away from performance to pursue a deeply personal and solitary artistic path. Filmed over several years with unprecedented access, the documentary follows Guggi through the quiet rituals of his creative life, offering a glimpse into the discipline, dedication and contemplation behind his work. - [Sun 20 Sept 2026](https://triskelartscentre.ie/events/bitter-christmas/)
BITTER CHRISTMAS tells two alternating stories, one starring Elsa, an advertising director, in 2004, during a long weekend in December. The second takes place in 2026 and stars Raúl, a screenwriter and director who is writing a script that we soon discover is the story of Elsa, her boyfriend Bonifacio, and her friends Patricia and Natalia. Mixed with fiction, Elsa is, in a way, Raúl's alter ego, who, like him, resorts to autofiction as a solution to a long period of creative drought. He looks inside himself, and he can't help but also look at the people who make up his most intimate universe: his partner and his assistant. The 15:45 screening on Wednesday 23rd September will contain descriptive subtitles for deaf/hard of hearing audiences.

Mexico City, early 90s. The day Bruno turns 11, his growing feelings for his best friend Vladimir clash with the sudden announcement that his father has HIV. Like in salsa songs, his family tries to sing and dance their pain away. Thirty years later, Bruno films, reimagining the memory of what he could not quite perceive as a child. This screening is part of the Priosma Queer Film Festival, which returns for its third iteration and expands to a 4 day festival running from 10 - 13 September 2026 in different venues all over Cork City. LESBIAN LINES reveals a hidden history through an underground network of telephone helplines. The calls, recorded in handwritten notes, were preserved during a time of profound constitutional change in Ireland, when women were fighting for their rights in a restrictive and conservative society. Through an ensemble of original helpline volunteers and actors, this little-known history is brought vividly to life, becoming a moving, joyful, and powerful archive built from collective memory. It is a story of community, connection, and the transformative power of listening. Followed by Q&A with director Cara Holmes and participants of the documentary. Part of Priosma Queer Film Festival. Triskel Cinema Memberships don't apply to this film.

Mexico City. A fatal car crash. Three lives collide. A teenager risks it all to run away with his brother’s wife. A model loses everything after moving in with her lover. A homeless man unearths the ghosts of his past. As their stories unfold, human chaos, cruelty, and tenderness come to light – revealing they are more connected than they seem. After 25 years, the legendary debut from Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu (BIRDMAN, THE REVENANT) returns to the big screen in a stunning restoration. A visceral reflection on human chaos, cruelty, and tenderness, AMORES PERROS remains as bold and affecting as ever. “Brilliantly shot, superbly acted and deeply heartfelt.” ViewLondon

Billy Lingwood is a Cork-based visual artist and arts worker with a BA in Fine Art: Printmaking & Contemporary Practice from LSAD. Their work explores post-colonial legacies in the Irish psyche and the social, cultural and policy impacts these continue to have on resident lifeforms. Rooted in printmaking, their practice often extends into curation, co-creation and intervention-based work. Their residency in Triskel Sample Project Space will bring together a professional artist and a group of non-professional collaborators to investigate alternative models of community-based art making. Workshops will combine research, archival investigation, skill sharing and making, with feedback gathered throughout the process.

Trygve and Tord develop unique musical spaces of glowing stillness, lyrical beauty, and far-reaching expressivity while taking chorals written by – or attributed to – Bach as their point of departure. The concert uses pieces like “Jesu, meine Freude”, “Auf meinen lieben Gott” and “Befiel du deine Wege”, and treats them with equal amounts of respect and freedom. The Programme will also include compositions by both artists, and perhaps some arrangements of Irish traditional tunes and compositions. Supported by The River Lee, a Doyle Collection hotel. Dates:
- [Sat 29 Aug 2026](https://triskelartscentre.ie/events/aurelian-ensemble/)
The Aurelian Ensemble is a brand new Chamber Music Collective, founded out of a shared love for Franz Schubert’s monumental Octet in F Major – a work whose warmth, lyricism, and symphonic scale have inspired musicians and audiences for generations. Written in 1824 and modelled in part after Beethoven’s Septet, the Octet expands the possibilities of chamber music with sweeping melodies, rich textures, and extraordinary interplay between the eight performers. This concert is part of an NSQF Young Artists tour which celebrates Schubert’s Octet as the piece that has brought these eight dynamic young musicians – from a variety of backgrounds and all high achievers in their own right – together for their inaugural concerts.
