Public Lecture by Dr. Luca Placci on the Italian Influences and Connections of Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto, and on Aalto's Architecture as UNESCO World Heritage. Placci will lecture in Jyväskylä, Muurame and Säynätsalo on 7-8 September 2026.
The event is part of the 60th anniversary programme of the Alvar Aalto Society, as well as the programmes of the Summer University of Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä. The lectures are organized in cooperation with the Alvar Aalto Foundation, Tavolo Bianco / Säynätsalo Town Hall, the Parish of Muurame, and the Municipality of Muurame.
Admission to all events is free of charge.

Are you a fast puzzle master, or do you prefer to place the pieces calmly but surely into position? Now is your chance to test your skills! In this speed competition, participants will complete a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle as quickly as possible, either individually or in pairs.
The Central Libraries and the Finnish Jigsaw Puzzle Association are searching for the fastest puzzle solver in Central Finland. Qualifying rounds will be held across the region during the autumn, and the top performers will be invited to the final, which will take place at Jyväskylä Main Library on Saturday, November 7.
Register for the individual or pair competition at Muurame Library by Monday, October 19. The number of participants is limited. For more information about the event, please contact the library.

The gentle and easy yoga guided by Studio Laive lasts about 45 minutes, followed by a wonderful sound bowl relaxation moment of about 15 minutes. After the relaxation, the evening continues with a delicious evening snack or lunch in a rural setting.

Are you looking for a fun and laid-back activity for a weekend morning with kids?
We organize pre-booked, own 10-minute led pony rides for the youngest members of the family on weekend mornings. This is a good, low-threshold way to get acquainted with a pony and try riding in a calm barnyard environment. You do not need previous experience with ponies. Dress according to the weather, with sturdy shoes (e.g. rubber boots) for the child. Helmets are available for loan from the stable.
Pony welfare first: Since the well-being and health of the animals is our top priority in all our activities, the rider's weight limit is a maximum of 50 kg. The Muurame Church was completed in 1929 based on the plans of architect Alvar Aalto. In the details of the church, one can see several influences adopted by Aalto during his honeymoon trip to Northern Italy, for example in the Campanile-style bell tower, the small windows placed high up, the sunshade of the wing building, the color scheme of the church, and the surrounding wall. Architecturally, the church represents Nordic classicism.
Exceptions to opening hours:
- On Midsummer's Eve, Friday June 19, the church is closed.
