The new exhibition is enlivened by versatile and unique audiovisual contents that guide the visitor from story to another and emotion to another: from the Helsinki Olympic Games to the world of e-sports, from excitement through disappointment to joy for victory.
The exhibition brings the heroes of Finnish success sports, such as track and field athletics, Formula One racing and ice hockey, as well as Finnish people who climb mountains, jump from airplanes or negotiate rapids and rails.

Amazing stunts and fire at the Helsinki Ice Hall
Stuntshow HELLsinki is bringing its adrenaline-filled and fire-filled show to Helsinki for the first time!
See the top European FMX, STUNT & BMX performers in the ice rink's melting family stunt and pyro show! Flips and acrobatics during a flight over 10 meters high on Freestyle Motocross bikes, incredible acrobatics on a heavy stunt bike, and incredible jumps on BMX bikes.
Tandem FMX pioneers who have travelled the world are also on board!
If the amazing FMX, Stunt and BMX performers are not enough with their effects, then at least the driver change in the air, a backflip with a friend and tricks at the same time ensure that the viewer will experience something that has not been seen in Finland!
All this surrounded by a blazing fire show!
In addition to the entrance tickets, it is also possible to purchase a pit pass for Stuntshow HELLsinki, which, together with the entrance ticket for the show, entitles you to access the driving area before the show starts.
In the driving area, you can meet the drivers and see the entire stunt arena up close, get autographs and take photos without restrictions.

Jokainen n ollut nuorena nolo. Kaikkein noloimmat meistä eivät koskaan voi unohtaa nolouttaan, sillä he kirjoittivat päiväkirjaa, eivätkä tajunneet hävittää sitä ennen kuin sille kertyi tunnearvoa.
Päiväkirjaklubilla nämä nyt jo aikuisiksi varttuneet itsetietoiset murheenkryynit jakavat nolot kirjoituksensa yleisölle. Merkinnät ensirakkauksista, vanhemmista ja nuoruuden ahdistuksista ovat paitsi liikuttavia ja traagisia myös käsittämättömän hauskoja, kun ne kuulee entisen nuoren lukemana.
Päiväkirjaklubi on myötähäpeää, naurua ja ennen kaikkea tunnistettavia tunteita siltä ajalta, kun kuvittelit, että olet ajatuksiesi kanssa täysin yksin – mutta kyllä kaikki olivat siellä. Klubilla luetaan paitsi päiväkirjamerkintöjä myös rakkauskirjeitä ja kouluaineita. Mitä nolompaa, sen parempaa. Samaistuminen ja yhteenkuuluvuuden tunne on parhaimmillaan noussut hurmokseksi näillä klubeilla.
Ensimmäinen Päiväkirjaklubi järjestettiin Helsingin Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamolla joulukuussa 2014 loppuunmyydylle katsomolle ja siitä lähtien päiväkirjoja Korjaamolla luettu tasaiseen tahtiin.
Klubia pyörittää kaksi koomikkoa: Risto Koo Järvinen, joka on (valitettavasti) kirjoittanut päiväkirjoja koko ikänsä ja Eeva Vekki, jota hävettää joka kerta nousta lavalle omien päiväkirjojensa kanssa.

The Kuorojen kierros – The Choir Tour will be held this year for the 30th time as a grand, wonderful, and harmonious event! One of Finland’s largest choir events will be launched with a joint concert on Thu, August 13, at 18.00 at the Senate Square. The great choir will be conducted by Marjukka Riihimäki.
After the joint concert, the choirs will tour the city’s restaurants, parks etc. between 19.00 and 22.30. The Choir Tour features over 120 choirs and thousands of singers. Tiistain meditaatiosessiossa tutkitaan kehomieltä oman kehokokemuksen kautta, vahvistetaan uppoutumis/keskittymiskykyä ja opetellaan rentoutumaan syvästi. Syksyn mittaan tutustutaan lempeästi kehon hienovaraisten energioiden virtauksiin ja osallistujien halutessa tehdään myötätuntoa ja muita mielen vahvuuksia jalostavia harjoituksia.
Säännöllisen kehopohjaisen meditaation hyötyjä ovat stressin ja uniongelmien väheneminen, kehotietoisuuden lisääntyminen ja viihtyisyyden kasvu omassa kehossa, keskittymiskyvyn paraneminen ja kohonnut kapasiteetti elää omannäköistä ja merkitykselliseltä tuntuvaa elämää.
Harjoitukset kumpuavat buddhalaisesta perinteestä ja niiden taustoista keskustellaan jonkin verran. Meditaatiota lähestytään oma järki ja kokemus pääasiallisina työkaluina, eikä tarkoitus ole omaksua uutta uskomusjärjestelmää tai ideologiaa.
Ohjaajana toimii muusikkona ja säveltäjänä työskentelevä Kalle Ylitalo, jolla on kymmenen vuoden kokemus päivittäisestä pragmaattisen dharman ja buddhalaisen meditaation harjoittamisesta.
Osallistuminen on ilmaista. Sessioissa tehdään ensin ohjattu harjoitus, minkä jälkeen keskustelemme harjoituksesta yhdessä. Kesto on noin puolitoista...

The Language Café is an open meeting place for anyone interested in different cultures and the Finnish language. The Language Café is run by volunteers who speak Finnish fluently.
Your language skills need not be fluent, but we hope that you speak some Finnish. There will be coffee and tea in a safe and friendly environment.

Eläkeläisten taidepiirissä maalataan akvarelli-/vesiväreillä vaihtelevin itse keksittyjen aiheiden pohjalta. Joskus maalataan myös yhteisen aiheen parissa. Neljä Mimmiä lavalla, mitä ihmettä? Näkeekö yleisö kaiken kahtena?? Onneksi ei vaan kaksikielisessä Mimmit-konsertissa lavalla on oikeasti neljä Mimmiä; Pauski, Hansu, Danu ja Ninnu. Ja tämä siksi, että Mimmit laulavat aina omalla äidinkielellään.
Kaksikielisessä Mimmit-konsertissa kuulet suosituimpia Mimmit-lauluja suomeksi ja ruotsiksi, orgaanisesti yhteen liitettyinä. Konserttia on helppo seurata molemmilla kielillä ja samalla saa sopivasti kielikylpyäkin.
Mukaansatempaavassa konsertissa lapset ja aikuiset pääsevät mukaan osallistumaan laulaen, viittoen, tanssien, leikkien ja arvaillen. Mukana on tietysti myös lasten suosikki, Mimmipussi. Mimmipussi avautuu laulun ja leikin avulla, jos avautuu...Milläköhän tuulella Mimmipussi on tänään?
Palkittu Mimmit on yksi Suomen tunnetuimmista lastenmusiikkiyhtyeistä. Mimmit ovat tehneet yli 1100 konserttia Suomessa ja ulkomailla ja julkaisseet 11 levyä suomeksi ja kaksi ruotsiksi. ”Puhuri, Pakkasen poika” valittiin vuoden lastenlevyksi 2025 ja Mimmit vuoden yhtyeeksi 2024. Mimmit-lauluja ja videoita on striimattu eri palveluissa jo yli 30 miljoonaa kertaa!

Tilaisuudessa uudet ja jo toiminnassa mukana olevat tapaavat. Saat vinkkejä sopivista kirjoista ja voit keskustella lukemiseen liittyvistä kysymyksistä ja
kokemuksista. Lukulähettiläät tukevat lukuharrastuksen säilymistä lukemalla ääneen ikääntyneille palvelutaloissa.
Illan aluksi pidetään uusille lukulähettiläille tarkoitettu koulutus vapaaehtoistoiminnan perusteista sekä lukulähettilästoiminnasta. Tauko klo 18.15–18.30. Tauon jälkeen jatkamme vertaistapaamisella, joka on sekä uusille ja vanhoille
lukulähettiläille tarkoitettu. Tällä kertaa teemana on pikkujoulut. Lämpimästi tervetuloa!

In 2000, Helsinki was a European Capital of Culture – the city bathed in art and Oblivia was born. The group made four site-specific performances during the year as part of the Roots, Voices, Rooms project. Now Oblivia returns to the roots and rooms where they were.
En tidsresa is a promenade performance and a slow-paced walk between places from Oblivia's early years. It stops to reflect on the past and the city that has changed.
The performance is guided by Annika Tudeer, founder and artistic leader, and Timo Fredriksson, founding member, musician and performer.
The performance begins at the Tram Museum, where Oblivia’s first performance Att tänka på flygning was made, and continues to the Winter Garden, where Abborrens dilemma premiered. A break follows at Linnunlaulu, where you can buy coffee or tea. The performance ends at the former VR warehouses, where What Were was performed.

Äänenkäytön ja ilmaisutaidon koulutus
vapaaehtoisille. Lisäksi kirjavinkkausta ti 27.10.2026 klo 17-19.30 Töölön kirjasto, Tapahtumatila 4kerros.
Tervetuloa äänenkäytön ja ilmaisutaidon koulutukseen, joka on suunnattu vapaaehtoisina toimiville! Koulutuksessa opetellaan terveitä äänen tuottamistapoja, saadaan vinkkejä äänenhuoltoon ja opetellaan erilaisia ilmaisutapoja äänenkäyttöön ja puheeseen. Lisäksi tehdään erilaisia ilmaisutaidon harjoituksia tukemaan itsensä ilmaisua.
Harjoituksista on hyötyä vapaaehtoisena
toimiessa esimerkiksi ryhmien ohjaamisessa, ääneen lukemisessa, ystävätoiminnassa, neuvottelu-tilanteissa tai vaikkapa saattohoidon tilanteissa tapahtuvassa vapaaehtoistoiminnassa. Harjoitukset ovat helppoja ja mukavia tehdä.
Opettajana toimii äänenkäyttöön ja puheilmaisuun perehtynyt teatteri-ilmaisun ohjaaja ja erikoiskirjastonhoitaja Elisa Makkonen.
HUOM! Lopuksi klo 19.00–19.30 on vielä kirjaston henkilökunnan toteuttamaa kirjavinkkausta.

Helsingin kamarikuoro on GRAMMY- ja Emma-palkittu ammattilaulajista koostuva kamarikuoro, joka esittää kuoromusiikin kantaohjelmistoa koulutettujen äänten voimin korkeimmalla musiikillisella tasolla, luo taiteellisesti vaativaa ja laadukasta uutta ohjelmistoa ja vaalii suomalaisen kuoromusiikin perinnettä. Vuodesta 2005 Helsingin kamarikuoro on kantaesittänyt lähes 100 teosta sekä vastannut 46 teoksen Suomen-ensiesityksestä.

Is a woman who treads her own path still too much or too little?
Soulmaidens, which blends contemporary puppet theatre, electronic sound design and baroque imagery, is a new stage interpretation of Claudio Monteverdi’s music theatre.
The Italian composer Monteverdi is regarded as one of the earliest opera composers in history. Soulmaidens draws on his works Il ballo delle ingrate and L’Arianna, which premiered in 1608 at the wedding celebrations of Francesco Gonzaga and Margherita of Savoy.
In both works, women are seen to transgress against patriarchy: Arianna loves too much, while the women of Il ballo delle ingrate love too little.

The Mouthpiece, The Request, Emerge: Oops…life! and love is a rebellious bird explore the themes of trauma, class, technology and fantasy. Their rugged edges, black comedy and touching beauty come together in surprising and unsettling ways.
The Sugar Factory is a three-year programme financed by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. Its aim is to support the making of new opera in Finland. Composers, librettists and directors have combined their talents to create new, short works for Almi Hall at the Finnish National Opera.

Jumppatytöt – A Love Letter to Aesthetic Group Gymnastics
Rising from the theater stage to a national phenomenon, Jumppatytöt expanded into an exhibition at TAHTO Center for Finnish Sports Culture.
The exhibition dives into the history and culture of Finnish Aesthetic group gymnastics culture, highlights powerful moments of the present, and explores dreams for the future.
The exhibition shares stories of competitive gymnasts, coaches, and enthusiasts alike – both the small and the big moments that make this sport so deeply loved in Finland. On display is a wide range of group gymnastics artifacts, videos, photographs, stories, and diary entries, as well as the competition costume of five-time world champion Paula Thesleff.
In theatre, Jumppatytöt premiered on April 13, 2024, in Minervaskolan in Helsinki. The theatre production is based on the personal experiences of the members of the creative team – current actresses and former gymnasts Katariina Havukainen, Inkeri Hyvönen, and Ella Lahdenmäki – with aesthetic group gymnastics.
The exhibition also draws on research material by PhD Sinikka Selin related to the experiences of group gymnasts.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to peek behind the scenes of the sport, to understand the power of movement, and to appreciate the importance of community within Finnish sporting culture.

Varaa oma aikasi kirjaston asiakaspalvelusta tai numerosta 09 3108 5025. Muistathan myös peruuttaa varauksesi, jos et pääsekään paikalle.
Ohjeet lukuhetkeä varten:
- Lukuhetkeen osallistuvat yksi lukija, koira ja koiran ohjaaja. Ohjaajan tehtävä on valvoa lukuhetkeä sivusta, mutta ei puuttua sen kulkuun.
- Rauhoitutaan lukemiseen -lukukoira on lukukaveri, ei leikkikaveri.
- Lukukoirat pitävät silityksestä. Kysy kuitenkin ensin omistajalta lupa.
Yksi lukuhetki kestää noin 15 min. Voit lukea koiralle mukaan ottamaasi kirjaa tai valita mieleisesi kirjaston kirjoista.
Lukukoiratoiminnan tavoitteena on lukuharrastuksen edistäminen ja onnistuneen lukukokemuksen luominen. Koirien on todettu lisäävän ihmisen mielihyvähormonien määrää sekä rentouttavan mieltä, minkä vuoksi niiden vaikutus myös lukemiseen liittyvissä haasteissa on myönteinen. Koiralle lukemisen on todettu auttavan lukihäiriöisiä lapsia sekä aikuisia. Koiran läsnäolo vähentää lukemiseen liittyvää kynnystä ja stressiä. Koira ei arvostele, takerru virheisiin tai keskeytä vaan lukijalla on rauha harjoitella lukemista.

Welcome to a lecture on the enigma of authoritarian power. The lecturer is Professor William Mazzarella, University of Chicago. The event will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at and in co-operation with Töölö Library and it is open to the public.

In this lecture, Mazzarella reflects on how we might try to think about authoritarianism and the incomprehensible reality that surrounds us in the world. He applies, among other things, psychoanalytic theory in his anthropological research. He grew up in Finland and visits the country regularly, but the lecture will be in English. The background for the event is that the Finnish Swedish psychotherapy association, under the heading “Thinking with Psychoanalysis”, wants to offer the wider public a chance to consider difficult or interesting questions with psychoanalytic thinking as a tool. This perspective can enrich and deepen understanding of the world outside the therapy session as well. We hope that in this way we can help open new ways to approach and try to understand cultural and societal phenomena.

The world’s most famous horror story about the Transylvanian count returns to the ballet stage. Krzysztof Pastor’s choreography was immensely popular in its premiere season in 2024 and is now revived by popular demand.
The music by Wojciech Kilar was also heard in the Oscar-winning film Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola.
The blood-thirsty and diabolical yet sexually alluring horror icon made his first appearance in European short fiction during the early 19th century.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula, inspired by the historical figure of 15th century Count of Wallachia, Vlad the Impaler, has become a classic in popular culture. The haunting story has been recreated in countless film and stage adaptations since its publication in 1897. One of the best known renditions is the Oscar-winning film directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1992.
The chilling film music by the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar serves as the foundation for the ballet score, which has been complemented with Kilar’s additional compositions.
