The key word of this year’s LOOP Festival, Image rémanente, refers, in the context of the Bicentenary of Photography, to the persistence, shift and survival of the image. It designates this phenomenon by which vision does not disappear without a trace, but continues to vibrate in perception: as memory, luminous spot or visual echo.
The afterimage is at the crossroads of photographic experience and the logic of cinema: the fixed moment moves there, repeats itself, returns and transforms. The theme is an open invitation to all works that question light, time, memory, repetition or disappearance.
The 20-second format is not only a formal constraint, but also a space for feedback, proofreading, and continuous transformation.

The inaugural exhibition of the Veszprém season, organized on the occasion of the Bicentenary of Photography, presents an original selection of black and white works by Árpád Kiss-Kuntler, winner of the 2026 Award for Excellence in Photojournalism. This exhibition is an intimate testimony, gathering impressions and atmospheres that over the years have shaped the artist’s artistic expression, transmitted through a visual language and written reflections that are part of his intellectual heritage.
The "homage" series, dedicated to great predecessors and eminent contemporaries, includes artists such as Claude Monet, Henri Rousseau and Le Corbusier; writers such as Béla Hamvas, László Krasznahorkai, the Brothers Grimm and Isaac Asimov; as well as scientists such as David Attenborough, Carlo Rovelli and Stephen Hawking—personalities that the photographer considers as sources of inspiration.

On the occasion of the Bicentenary of Photography, the opening weekend of this series of thematic events throughout the year offers special activities to all those who wish to discover the heritage of ancient photographic processes. At the conference on the history of photography by Imre Zalka, participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the techniques of ambrotype, a process involving wet collodion on glass plates. If you’ve never seen the inside of a camera in operation, it’s time to fix it! The traveling photographer’s method is to "develop the film" inside the reversed camera, from which an image on paper is produced through a 19th-century sun-drawing process. The complete realization of a portrait takes about 30 to 40 minutes, during which participants will also take part, under the direction of Péter Laczkó, in an original chemistry workshop related to the photographic process.

Dr. Zoltán Korsós, zoologist and former director general of the Hungarian Museum of Natural History, stayed for three years, from 2009 to 2012, in the subtropical archipelago of Okinawa, in southern Japan, at the invitation of the Ryukyu University. He explored fifty-three of the sixty inhabited islands, where he studied the biology of soil arthropods. He first shared his singular experiences on a blog, then in a book that emerged from it.
