Dr. Zoltán Korsós, zoologist and former director general of the Hungarian Museum of Natural History, stayed for three years, from 2009 to 2012, in the subtropical archipelago of Okinawa, in southern Japan, at the invitation of the Ryukyu University. He explored fifty-three of the sixty inhabited islands, where he studied the biology of soil arthropods. He first shared his singular experiences on a blog, then in a book that emerged from it.
