A dance performance for primary school children about things important to nature and humanity that are small and significant, but so big at the same time!

This dance performance delves into the marvellous lives of the inhabitants of a flower meadow, while also providing fascinating information about pollinating insects that are significant to nature and humanity: bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, butterflies and beetles. We encourage and inspire the audience to make their own observations and take small steps to support nature in their local area.

Small & Significant combines artistic work with scientific research and draws on a multifaceted approach to viewing and experiencing dance. Dance provides a lively and playful way to approach the subject. The experiential and participatory information material accompanying the performance aims to convey information in a way that is easy to understand and memorable.

90% of the world’s wild flowering plants and 75% of cultivated plants are at least partly dependent on pollinators. The numbers of pollinating insects have been declining at an alarming rate all over the world in recent times. The destruction of habitats, the use of pesticides, intensive farming and biodiversity loss in urban nature continue to pose a threat to pollinators.
