The Structure and Interpretation of Architecture Diagrams Architects can be made fun of for just drawing pictures. In reality, diagrams and sketches are among an architect’s mightiest tools: they are powerful abstractions that distill critical decisions, remove uncertainty, and get diverse stakeholders on the same page. “Ok, but I already know UML and C4”. you may think. Those standard notations are great for communicating designs, but they are less expressive for moderating decision meetings that must expand the solution space, tease out nuances, and highlight trade-offs. Learn from an IT veteran how to capture complex concepts visually, why you should not simplify but amplify, how Rothko diagrams reveal themselves, and why two pens and a sheet of paper are sufficient for expressing 20 dimensions. Pens and paper will be provided for an analog, AI-free class!
