In 1876, an international conference was held in Brussels that set Europe on the path to colonising the Congo. In 2026, a round-table discussion was held in Kinshasa between Congolese authorities and European embassies to rebalance bilateral relations, 150 years after the events. This event formed part of the launch ceremony for a collective Afro-European publication, which examines the colonial origins of the modern-day Congo. Switzerland also appears to be involved, both then and now.
