August Adult Book Discussion: House on Mango Street

Dates:

Sat, Aug 29, 2026, 11:00 AM–12:00 PM

Join us in August to discuss a classic Chicago book, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Told in a series of vignettes--sometimes joyous, sometimes heartbreaking--Cisneros' masterpiece is a classic story of childhood and self-discovery and one of the greatest neighborhood novels of all time. Told through the eyes of a young Latina girl named Esperanza and set in Chicago, it makes a world through people and their voices, and it does so in language that is poetic and direct. This gorgeous coming-of-age novel is a celebration of the power of telling one's story and of being proud of where you're from. Books will be available to check out at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch circulation desk. This title may also be available on the Hoopla or Libby app. Accessibility Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
