The nuances of contemporary folk music meet electronic party energy as Maija Pokela and Melkutus Party take over Etno-Espa.

Maija Pokela is a kantele player and singer with a strong background in Finnish contemporary folk music.
She has toured all over the world and recorded as a member of various groups (Kardemimmit, ENKEL) along with many other projects. Her debut solo album Lohdun sanoja (Words of Comfort) explores themes found in the emotional spectrum of traditional folk songs such as longing, yearning and comfort.
In this concert the music of the album written and arranged by Pokela will be presented with the help of Veera Kuisma's folk fiddle mastery and Onni Rajaniemi's exquisite vocal harmonies and guitar playing.

Kantele used to be the dance party instrument of two hundred years ago – so why not today, too!
Melkutus Party combines old Karelian kantele melodies and electronic music, creating modern kantele party music. Melkutus Party started as a solo project of Jenni Venäläinen (kantele, vocals) and, after the debut album ( Melkutus Party , Nordic Notes 2023), a live trio was created and started touring. Janne Storm (live electronics, setara) and Tatu Viitala (percussion, live electronics) added their own unique visions to the concoction, and here we are: fresh, modern and futuristic vibes deeply connected to Karelian and Finnish history, and the musical actuality of past generations.
