From 1865 to the present day, Geneva and its mountaineering associations have played a pivotal role in the development of the sciences, arts, technologies, and practices related to mountaineering worldwide. Drawing on the archives of the Geneva Section of the Swiss Alpine Club and with the support of the ALPS Museum in Bern, the Geneva City Archives, and the Association for Geneva’s Industrial Heritage, this exhibition explores various aspects of the profound influence that Geneva’s scientists, artists, and mountaineers have exerted over the course of 161 years of Alpine history.
