Soul of Helsinki is a photographic city research through the identity, people and spaces of Helsinki.
In this city, a lot of things are possible. A city that is both an individual and a communal experience, that each of us lives through in their own way. A daily metro ride, a seashore breakfast, an evening bike ride, a cafe you can always come for advice, your favorite people, youth breaking on the city squares, a go-to space for creating, friend of a friend you’re about to meet, a hidden gem, a street you walk along on the way to work and a new opportunity, every day.
Through her photographs, Mila studies the soulfulness of Helsinki through mixing medias and layers of reality, empty streets, creatives and their dreams into one. Everything here is related, but how do you feel a part of these spaces and communities? What do these spaces keep and people create? How do we live and breathe this culture by connecting with each other? The answer to this lies within you - you can be anyone and still be from Helsinki. Belong.
Soul of Helsinki debuted at Stoa in 2024. In the past few years I collected more observations.
New streets I walked, people I met and connections found. New Helsinki inspiration, freshly mixed. A study of soul from a city perspective.
