Choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion have collaborated for over 35 years, touring together across 35 countries worldwide. Their work is both rigorous and funny. It has its roots in a shared love of musical form, which they clash against an approach to performance that is joyfully anarchic.
In Jyväskylä the two artists will share their most watched piece online The Quiet Dance (2005) which confuses what you see and what you hear in a constantly surprising overlap of coincidences, followed by their most recent work The Unison Piece (2025), an investigation and celebration of doing things together in time, performed at tables with two electric guitars.
'We laugh—not at them, but with them. It is a humor that springs from precision,
from experience, from a deep understanding of form...It is hard not to read this
as a reflection on being human and on life itself.'
