As part of the 2026 edition of Landskrona Foto Festival—featuring around seven indoor and nine outdoor exhibitions with photographers from across the world—this presentation at Landskrona Citadel is highlighted as a key project within the programme.
Set within the 16th-century fortress, whose history includes its use as a prison and women’s labour institution, the exhibition explores themes of confinement, displacement, and migration, with a particular focus on women’s experiences.
In the Prison Tower, They Stray, They Persist, They Thunder by Agnès Geoffray and Vanessa Desclaux draws on archives from French “preservation schools” that confined young women deemed “deviant.” Through staged photographs, texts, and archival material, the work revisits these histories and reimagines acts of resistance and emancipation, while connecting them to the Citadel’s own past through new site-specific research.
