Woodland conservation at Lesnes Abbey Woods

Lesnes Abbey Lodge, London, SE2 0AX
Woodland conservation at Lesnes Abbey Woods

Dates:

Sun, 6 Sept 2026, 10:00–11:30

This is our monthly conservation session with the friendly volunteers at the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods (FOLAW).

Tasks vary from month to month; from clearing brambles along the paths so that woodland flowering plants and animals can recolonise the area, to cutting back holly and saplings and digging out bracken to re-establish the heathland area. This time it may be more of the same or something different!

We'll join the FOLAW volunteers from 10am until about 11.30am (they finish later, and you are welcome to stay on).

Afterwards we'll head to the Chestnuts kiosk at The Lodge for hot drink. It's fine if you need to leave earlier.

Please bring sturdy gardening gloves if you have some 🧤. Oh, and don't forget your reusable cup if you have one and want a coffee!

There may not be a GoodGym Bexley leader at this task, but the FOLAW organisers will make you feel very welcome.

Look out for other GoodGymers and perhaps one of you can write short report and add photos of you at the task via the 'Mission Accomplished' email that will land in your inbox later in the day.

📍**Meeting point**

Meet at 10am near the toilets next to the Chestnuts kiosk at The Lodge, across from the abbey ruins. Find the FOLAW organisers - usually Marc and/or Paul - in hi-vis jackets and tell them you are with GoodGym. They'll ask you to sign in and will explain the task.

Please note that the group will head into the woods promptly at 10.10am so make sure you arrive in good time 😀.
