At the crossroads of early music and Mediterranean and Eastern traditions, Canticum Novum delve into the layered history of Aleppo, a city shaped over centuries by the coexistence of Byzantine, Arab, Ottoman, Armenian, Christian and Jewish cultures. Titled _Samâ-ï_ – from the Arabic _samā‘_, evoking the art of deep, shared listening – the programme is carried by voices and instruments from the Near East. It paints a vivid portrait of a city of encounters and passage, where music has long woven connections between peoples.
