While tech-billionaires publicly celebrate their ”techno-optimism” (Andreessen), they secretly prepare for the possible consequences of their disruptive actions. In face of scenarios like climate collapse or civil wars they seek safety in private luxury bunkers, space colonies or in uploading their minds to the cloud; pursuing private exit-strategies rather than using their vast resources to make the world a better place. How did we get from the possibilities of the early cyber utopias to the catastrophising fantasies of the tech bros—and how can we reactivate a commitment to the interdependent ”Team Human”? Rushkoff will take on these and other questions as the final keynote in a fireside chat with Sarah Kriesche.
