Now in its third edition, the Expanded Play Gallery features a curated selection of interactive works that address a wide range of topics through the medium of play. From dynamic shadow worlds inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, to the sonification of urban data or conversations with an artificial messiah, the exhibition spans a diverse range of artistic positions and technological approaches. Together, the works invite participants to engage directly with the evolving relationships between humans and machines, challenging conventional understandings of interaction, perception and digital culture.

Open Futurelab once again opens the doors of Ars Electronica’s artistic R&D laboratory and atelier, offering insights into artistic research as an open, collaborative process. At the Ars Electronica Center, visitors encounter the new interactive exhibition Hello Worlds!, alongside research prototypes and installations.
Together with additional pieces at satellite locations throughout Linz, the works make the Futurelab’s questions, methods and experiments tangible—and invite everyone to take part in imagining what comes next.

Artificial Intelligence is increasingly becoming a counterpart in our world. It no longer exists on screens alone, but in robots, vehicles and intelligent systems. It speaks with us, moves through our environments and acts within them. Many abilities once considered uniquely human can now be simulated—or even performed—by AI. We develop and shape these technologies, while they shape us in return. They transform how we perceive, communicate, move, imagine the future and understand ourselves.
Through artistic prototypes, interactive installations and shared experiences, Hello Worlds! invites visitors to explore these questions together. The exhibition is the public outcome of the experimental Future Humanity Project, a trial research collaboration between Toyota Motor Corporation's Advanced R&D and Engineering Company and the Ars Electronica Futurelab . Visitors are invited to contribute their own perspectives, helping to shape the project's ongoing research.

The Ars Electronica Features Exhibition is a platform for partner institutions from around the world to present artistic perspectives and research-based practices that resonate with the festival’s curatorial theme. In 2026, under the title NEGOTIATING HUMANITY – FUTURE BEGINS, 16 partners explore what it means to act, decide and make meaning at a moment when the boundaries between human intention, algorithmic process and biological life have become truly difficult to locate.

Universities are supposed to be places where difficult questions can be asked. Where language is tested, where positions are opened rather than fixed, where the discomfort of not knowing is treated as a precondition for learning rather than a failure. In theory. In practice, the picture in 2026 is considerably more complicated.
Scholars at Risk documented 395 attacks on scholars, students and institutions in 49 countries and territories between July 2024 and June 2025 alone, describing the findings as indicative of deteriorating global conditions for academic freedom. Academic freedom had declined significantly in 36 out of 179 countries since 2024, while it improved in just 8. The Academic Freedom Index 2026 sharpens the picture further: institutional autonomy in the United States has deteriorated by 50 percent since 2015. While the festival theme NEGOTIATING HUMANITY – FUTURE BEGINS proposes that humanity is not a fixed condition, but an ongoing process of negotiation, Negotiating Beyond Humanity expands this horizon by turning towards the more-than-human beings. Grounded in the transdisciplinary exchanges that have unfolded through three years of the Studiotopia residency program, the exhibition contributes to a broader inquiry into the possibilities opened by sustained dialogue between artistic and scientific perspectives on planetary coexistence.
To move beyond the human perspective is to recognize the many forms of life, living systems and material processes that continually shape our shared reality, and the relationships through which we are entangled with them. From soil organisms, microbes and fungi to insects, rivers and forests, these are encountered not as passive objects or resources, but as active participants whose agencies, temporalities and modes of communication exceed familiar human frameworks.

What we see, hear and feel, we interpret as reality. It appears immediate, yet it is already filtered, ordered and interpreted. Reality emerges through the interplay between inner perception and the external world, between individual and collective context. It is never simply a matter of what is real, nor does it exist independently of the frameworks through which we make sense of it. Embedded within collective systems of interpretation, reality dictates what is considered relevant, visible or sayable. Processes of standardization, classification and regulation produce the frameworks within which we think and move through the world as human beings. This exhibition presents six works—primarily Golden Nica and Grand Prize winners— selected from the Prix Ars Electronica 2026 (4,329 submissions from 106 countries) and the European Commission’s STARTS Prize 2026 (2,719 submissions from 110 countries).
Each of these works deconstructs and reimagines, with striking necessity, the notion of “humanity” that we have long taken for granted—from diverse perspectives, including bodily perception, the nature of capitalist technology, the new autonomous creativity of AI, history, geopolitics and the climate crisis. Together, the award-winning works reveal that what we believe to be “human” is not fixed but perpetually shifting, granting vivid form to this year’s festival theme, NEGOTIATING HUMANITY.
The artists, in other words, are themselves at the forefront of negotiating humanity. The multilingual appraoch of the project not only highlights the universal validity of human rights but also reflects the diversity of the citizens of Linz, who are actively involved. In front of St. Mary’s Cathedral, groups of young people from Linz with migrant backgrounds are scattered across the square. They chant parts of the Declaration of Human Rights in their mother tongues. They, along with the audience, become the fierce voice advocating for human rights.

Airy begins with a question: how can we sense what a machine is trying to do when its code remains hidden? Industrial robotic arms lift and snap a sheet of silk as two dancers move with and against them. A projected forest climbs from ground to open sky. Mist gathers when their timing slips and clears when they find a rhythm again. The dancers of TAO Dance Theater do not explain the machines. Through weight, touch, hesitation and recovery, they test how trust is made and lost between human and mechanical bodies. Baoyang Chen stages these encounters to explore how machine agency can become readable without becoming transparent. Through robotic installations and multi-agent systems, he sets up situations in which audiences interpret and negotiate machine intent through movement, materials and sensory metaphors—legibility that remains situated, partial and open to misreading.
Airy was developed and presented at art district 798, a cultural icon of contemporary Chinese art and a global platform for artistic exchange, public engagement and cultural innovation.

This year, a red-lit area will be visible on the Maindeck in front of the STWST. The red area stands for all manner of dramatic expressions. It lies open like a huge, screaming mouth of blood, evoking both the current horrors of the wars plaguing the globe and the structural brutalities of capitalism: Even the concrete screams, to paraphrase Michel Houellebecq. And everything screams—everything that has been torn from life and fed into the current machinery of exploitation—into this new technocapitalist totalitarianism that has permeated even the smallest spheres of life, into this context in which—from hardware to software and wetware—even extracted life and algorithms scream.
On the red surface a takeoff takes place—a ritual ascent, a launch into space. A positive hauntology emerges within the negative: For Sun Ra on Saturn, with its statement in favor of divine creativity, also constitutes a statement against those forces that are destroying the planet. It is a commentary on the fact that the much-cited multiple crises are not calamities arising out of nowhere, but rather the results of calculation, strategies and fantasies of omnipotence.

The title Orbit: A War Series is a reference to the New York artist Nancy Spero: deeply moved by the photographs of the Vietnam War that were circulating in the media, Spero investigated the links between sexuality, violence and power in The War Series (1966–70). The subject of oppressive power structures revealed in her art is horrifyingly relevant today. Orbit: A War Series appeals to the images in our minds: Brigitta Muntendorf’s immersive 3D audio space oratorio is like an electroacoustic series of narratives in which sounds, texts, voices and space become transmitters of power structures. The texts are based on interviews and reports from Afghanistan, Iran, DR Congo, Poland, the U.S. and Asia during the Second World War. The musical spaces of violence, protection, escape or exhibition form the acoustic habitat of the voices that their bodies left behind to form vocal clones and immortal warriors of a posthuman and techno-futuristic chorus that proclaims an opera of the future that is as sensory as it is political.

With Olivier Messiaen’s Apparition de l'Église éternelle, cathedral organist Gerhard Raab brings a monumental masterpiece of modern organ music to the acoustic space of the St. Mary’s Cathedral. Literally translating to the ”Apparition of the Eternal Church”, the piece builds over a relentlessly pulsating bass ostinato into a massive, architectural wave of sound—an immersive experience that unleashes the full physical power of the cathedral organ.

To kick off the day’s focus on Living Archives, Ars Electronica invites you to a 60-minute opening performance in Deep Space 8K. Following a welcome address, Gerfried Stocker guides the audience through selected highlights of this year’s festival program as well as standout projects from the previous year. Archives are commonly regarded as places of preservation—orderly repositories of a complete past. Living Archives challenges this notion by proposing a different understanding: archives as dynamic, evolving spaces in which past, present and future can be brought into new relationships, and from which new artistic works can emerge through dialogue with emerging technologies. This very question has already been explored by the Salzburg Festival and Ars Electronica as part of a STARTS Residency Programme. With the Living Archives focus on September 12th, we now bring a selection of international projects to Deep Space 8K that artistically embody this shift in perspective. Following the opening, Gerfried Stocker will discuss the questions guiding this day with various international experts: How do archives become living, shapeable spaces? And what relationship emerges between cultural heritage and the new tools used to interpret it?

Designed to be thought-experiments that inspire discussion about real-world change, the films are based on careful research and speculative fiction. This event includes a screening of the films and a hands-on introduction to the world-building approaches behind the project.

Maja Vidic is a Slovenian dancer, choreographer, performer and musician exploring the connection between movement and voice.
Free Association Improvisation is an interdisciplinary artistic project initiated by Milan Conić, exploring the boundaries between music, movement and spontaneous expression.
Rooted in the principle of free association, the project embraces immediacy, intuition and presence—allowing sound, body and visual elements to emerge organically in the moment, without predetermined structure.
At its core, Free Association Improvisation is a dialogue between artists across different mediums. Each participant contributes their own language while remaining deeply responsive to the collective flow. The result is a living composition—unrepeatable, raw and continuously evolving.

The Unsettled is the duo project of Serbian jazz pianist Milan Conic and Ukrainian producer J San, merging their individual stories of resilience with an eclectic blend of electronic music. Drawing on genres such as House, UK Garage, and New School Breaks, their sound is enriched by Milan's contemporary piano playing, while J San's innovative sound design adds a distinctive edge.
Crafting immersive atmospheres and intricate sonic textures, they transport listeners into evolving, cinematic yet danceable soundscapes.
Now based in Linz, Austria, The Unsettled offers an immersive live experience where melodic storytelling meets intricate rhythms, inviting audiences on a journey of emotional connection and new perspectives. Their music transcends borders, bringing a fresh pulse to the electronic scene while embodying the strength and transformation that emerge from finding harmony through displacement.

Te-En Chen is a composer, synthesist and sound artist based in Linz, Austria. His work bridges classical tradition and experimental practice through live electronics, modular synthesis, multichannel composition and free improvisation. Combining real-time sound processing with synthesizer performance, he creates immersive sonic dialogues between acoustic instruments and electronic textures in interdisciplinary collaborations.
Composer and synthesist Te-En Chen and pianist/composer Milan Conić first crossed paths in Linz, Austria—a city whose vibrant artistic landscape encourages encounters between acoustic tradition and electronic innovation. Their collaboration emerged from a shared fascination with improvisation, sound exploration and the dialogue between human expression and technology. At the heart of the project lies the meeting of the refined hammer action and rich resonance of a Bechstein grand piano with the limitless sonic possibilities of modular synthesis and live electronic sound design.
Rather than presenting fixed compositions, the duo creates open-form performances in which each concert unfolds as a unique sonic journey. Piano, synthesizers and real-time electronic processing interact as equal voices, shaping immersive musical landscapes that evolve spontaneously and remain open to the unexpected.

Tarlan Eshtiagh is an Iranian-born musician, vocalist, pianist and arranger. She is currently based in Austria. Beyond jazz and contemporary vocal art, she has deep roots in Persian music, having worked as singer, pianist and arranger. Notably, they rearranged traditional Persian compositions for piano and vocals.
Tarlan Eshtiagh and Milan Conic are beginning a musical collaboration in Linz. Inspired by traditional Iranian music, they blend electronic sounds with modern arrangements, creating a contemporary, intercultural sound.

El Cultivo de la Mente is a performance film by the artist duo Blüten & Papaya, divided into three acts, with a live performance of the soundtrack by Milan Conic on piano. The film centers on a stranded man who devotes himself to self-imposed tasks in support of nature on a solitary island. It interrogates human logic in relation to natural processes and cycles, as well as humanity’s engagement with its own will. Composer and pianist Milan Conic musically immerses himself in the protagonist’s inner world and interprets it live. His composition emerges in direct dialogue with the images, opening up a musical perspective on the character’s inner state.
Blüten & Papaya is an interdisciplinary artist duo formed by Georgi Sarkezi and Eva Stöflin. Their artistic practice combines audiovisual media, performance and textile- and material-based work. They operate at the intersection of ecological thinking and contemporary cultural processes, bringing together diverse artistic methods in experimental projects.

How can individual movement signatures be mapped, recognised and predicted?
How can a dancing dialogue with the HAMLET Generative AI tools: Dance Style Analysis and Generation Enabler and the Music-to-Movement Enabler lead to new ways of inhabiting and discovering our bodies through movement, of relating to each other and to the tangibly physical and intangible, intuitively intelligible latent spaces into which we are immersed? The workshop invites participants to dance dialogues with(out) AI.

What happens when a machine mixes paintings without text prompts? Fluidity of Images explores the juxtaposition space between images: the territory between two source works where they combine to different extents to reveal a spectrum of new forms, condensations and compositions. It situates this practice within a broader continuum of procedural and collective artistic practices, where agency is distributed across processes, tools and collaborators.
Cost: All materials will be provided by the workshop facilitators. However, participants can bring their own artworks to generate new images by mixing them. No AI model will be trained on any images used or created during the workshop.

This embedding event stages the question as an exchange: participants set down what they need, have built, and refuse with AI, cluster where their answers meet and trade concrete offers and requests into a shared ledger.

DAS Trail is a fieldwork program developed as part of the Data Art & Science Project of Toyota Coniq and Ars Electronica Futurelab. In this workshop, you will learn about the local area through data collection. Together with other participants, you will walk along specially curated trails in Linz and explore the city from a new perspective through observation, Gaussian Splatting 3D scanning of your discoveries and engaging in dialogue with others.
Cost: This DAS Trail Workshop is open to all age groups. On Wednesday, there is a slot specifically for kids, teens and families. Photography and video recording will take place during this workshop.

This is the premiere of the artist’s new song RISE—a composition that explores ideas of resilience and the process of becoming. It is a journey of rediscovery and reinvention.
Crystn Hunt Akron gained international attention following a live performance in Cairo, where an early audience interruption sparked a widespread debate on issues of artistic freedom, cultural contexts and the role of experimental sound art within religious spaces. This incident served to highlight the unique capacity of art to initiate social discourse, challenge established perceptions and open up new spaces for dialogue.
For this evening’s performance, Crystn Hunt Akron is also responsible for the sound design and composition of the accompanying dance piece Worship.

The Live Cinema Lab is a participatory film installation that invites participants to actively immerse themselves in the world of filmmaking. The focus is not on the final result, but on the creative process itself: How does a scene emerge? How do decisions, encounters and perspectives shape a story? Participants step into a role and develop a short film scene together with a professional acting partner on site. They experience a glimpse of everyday life on a film set, from preparation and acting to directing, camera, sound and costume. The scene is explored, reflected on and transformed. The Live Cinema Lab creates an open space for encounter, experimentation and learning, making the processes, decisions and collaborations behind filmmaking directly tangible.

Democracy has always depended on places where different perspectives can meet, disagreement can be negotiated and shared futures can be imagined. Today, many of these encounters take place online, in digital spaces shaped by the logics of attention, amplification and emotional engagement. Here, disagreement can easily turn into polarization and fragmentation, while disinformation is increasingly used to deepen social divides, undermine trust and advance geopolitical interests.
This conference takes Negotiating Humanity as its starting point to explore how democratic discourse can be strengthened in increasingly complex digital information ecosystems.
The programme looks at the forces transforming the digital public sphere—from platform architectures and algorithmic amplification to information manipulation and the psychological dynamics behind polarization. Through current examples, it examines how conflicts are intensified, how disinformation and AI-generated content are changing the information landscape and what these developments reveal about the changing conditions of democratic life.
But the conference does not stop at diagnosis. The second part turns towards the possibilities ahead. If digital spaces have become an important part of our public life, how might we shape them to better support democratic participation and constructive disagreement? What new forms of digital inclusion, deliberation and civic participation could emerge? And how might AI contribute to these processes—not only as a technology that needs to be governed, but as a tool for building new democratic infrastructures?

Meet artist Robert Moser for a conversation on the exhibition In the Paradise of Painting. Or: On Growth and Refinement, on view at DIE KUNSTSCHAFFENDEN. As high-performance computers increasingly assess human beings by their “market value”, art remains a space for growth and refinement. At its most authentic, it preserves what makes us human. In this light, hand-painted works become an act of resistance.
The artist will share insights into his practice and reflect on painting as a space for human experience, refinement and resistance in the age of algorithmic systems.
DIE KUNSTSCHAFFENDEN is an association of artists who develop exhibitions and projects. The network explores various disciplines of contemporary art and makes them accessible to the public. The gallery occupies a prominent location in the center of Linz, embedded in the OÖ Kulturquartier. Developments in contemporary art are presented to the public in an exhibition program that changes monthly.

In an environment of aesthetic innovation, social revolt, subversive power and artistic-technological developments, the film interweaves text, interviews, artistic productions and archive material from 1979 to the present day into a narrative with shifting perspectives—thus creating a larger social story that extends beyond the city. Polaris – Music Between the Poles
This year, Ars Electronica’s Big Concert Night unfolds as a multimedia Gesamtkunstwerk. Staged across three concert halls, visitors move between strikingly different concerts and performances, each performed several times throughout the evening so that audiences can experience them in shifting constellations and atmospheres.
Polaris—the pole star and fixed point of this constellation—embodies the festival’s guiding theme: the question of what it fundamentally means to be human, of “conditio humana.” It’s a question we can only approach by looking past the polarity of opposites and understanding them instead as expressions of their complementarity. Throughout the evening, music and art form a constellation in which opposites meet and come into contact with one another, their gravitational center found in the spaces for play and freedom that they open up.
ORBIT – A War Series is an immersive 3D audio space oratorio by composer Brigitta Muntendorf that confronts the vehemence of war and oppression, and the violence and contempt for humanity underlying them—through a powerful combination of contemporary technology and artistic mastery. Alongside it stands Polaris, the latest Pianographique production by Maki Namekawa and Cori O'Lan, offering a distinctive take on the music of Philip Glass, whose compositions have become, for many, a timeless soundtrack of our present moment. Under the title NEGOTIATING HUMANITY – FUTURE BEGINS, the festival puts fundamental questions about humanity up for negotiation. On the opening night, a clear declaration is made: a commitment to humanity—more precisely, to the unbreakable humanity found in art and in the shared experience of it. St. Mary’s Cathedral, with its overwhelming spatial and acoustic scale, becomes the resonating chamber for this declaration. Here, the most diverse musical languages and worldviews of the past five centuries meet—along with equally diverse ideas of what makes us human, and how that humanity can find expression in music.
Following opening remarks by Bundesminister Christoph Wiederkehr, Landeshauptmann Thomas Stelzer, Bürgermeister Dietmar Prammer and Stadträtin Doris Lang-Mayerhofer, the extensive program, running late into the night, begins in the cathedral’s spacious downtown square. Club culture and Arab musical tradition are brought into close dialogue by Seba Kayan and Orwa Saleh, followed by a performance by actress and musician NENDA and a participatory project centered on the Declaration of Human Rights.
The second part of the evening takes place inside the cathedral itself, whose wide arc has spanned nearly five centuries of artistic engagement with human nature and the great questions of our existence—from Thomas Tallis’ polyphonic vocal music of the 16th century to the digital soundscapes of Japanese composer and sound artist evala and soprano Ayako Tanaka. The new exhibition venue Orangery Salzburg – Panorama | World Heritage re-contextualizes cultural heritage not as a static archive, but as a space for interactive, shared experience. How can digital technologies open new ways of seeing, understanding, negotiating and collectively experiencing cultural heritage? Salzburg Museum and Ars Electronica Futurelab discuss this through showcasing one of the new interventions. At its core is Johann Michael Sattler’s panoramic view of Salzburg (1825–1829), explored through a gigapixel image that reveals details down to individual brushstrokes. This historical perspective is paired with a contemporary 360° photographic panorama of Salzburg, enabling a direct comparison across time. In Deep Space 8K, visitors experience the seamless navigation between these two views using an interactive slider, uncovering preservation and transformation of the city.

It all starts at 3:00 PM at the Lentos Kunstmuseum with a premiere. Hemma Schmutz (Director of the Lentos Kunstmuseum) and Gerfried Stocker (Artistic Director) invite guests to the opening of NEGOTIATING HUMANITY – Award-Winning Works Exhibition, which for the first time brings together the projects of the winners of the Prix Ars Electronica and the European Union’s S+T+ARTS Prize and takes on the festival theme.
At 5:00 PM sharp, Brigitte Hütter (Rector of the University of Arts Linz) and Manuela Naveau (curator of this year’s Campus) welcome guests in the courtyard of the University of Arts Linz and open this year’s Ars Electronica Campus Exhibition, in which more than 30 universities from around the world are taking part. In parallel, the Sound Campus of the University of Arts Linz invites visitors to acoustic experiences as a platform for experimental sound art.
Things continue at 6:00 PM at the Francisco Carolinum (FC), where Alfred Weidinger (Scientific Director of OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH) invites guests to the opening of the exhibitions No applause. no life. no pain. – Claudia Larcher, Read the Room – Ana María Caballero and Collection Francisco Carolinum – 3 Blockchains, one Collection. Also opening are the Ars Electronica Features Exhibition, on view only during the festival, and the FESTIVAL WALK. The ecological consequences of large-scale monocultures are becoming increasingly evident in European forests. The project centers on a large freestanding billboard installed in public space. Over the course of the festival, large-format posters are added successively to its surface, gradually transforming the image and revealing the project’s research process as a public, time-based intervention.

As part of the Ars Electronica Festival, Calle Libre Street Art Festival and Austrian Post invite visitors to participate in the Addressing Tomorrow Postcard Illustration Workshop.
For generations, postcards have connected people by carrying memories, messages and ideas across places and time. Inspired by the theme Addressing Tomorrow, this workshop transforms the traditional postcard into a creative medium for imagining and communicating personal visions of a better future.
Guided by the Calle Libre team, participants will explore a wide range of analog illustration techniques and artistic materials. At the end of the workshop, all postcards will be exhibited on-site, offering visitors a diverse and inspiring collection of personal perspectives on tomorrow.

Our democracies and constitutions rest on foundations that were originally laid in a very different world. As societies confront multiple, interconnected crises, many are asking whether our political systems are still equipped to meet today’s challenges. In this participatory workshop, IG Demokratie invites participants to explore the roots of the current crisis of democracy. What lies at its core? Political parties? Patriarchal structures? Escalating techno-capitalism? Or something else entirely? Through collective reflection and discussion, this workshop examines how political structures might be dismantled, redesigned and renewed. After all, the political system belongs to us all—and so does the opportunity to shape its future.

This project uses collective, public laughter as a tactical, non-verbal strategy to confront and disrupt existing power structures, acting as a raw detonator against societal apathy and filling the public space with a disorienting cacophony of irony, joy and profound systemic discomfort. It is structured as a horizontal and open performance around a core group of trained members, inviting the everyday public to organically merge into a massive, contagious feedback loop that renders the mechanics of authority completely inoperative.

This participatory performance flips the script: instead of destroying the welfare state like Elon Musk & Co., audience volunteers smash the privileges of tech oligarchs and the super-rich. Cardboard boxes labeled “corporate lobbying”, “privatized healthcare”, “rearmament funding” and more sit on a table, awaiting a symbolic wooden “chainsaw”. Volunteers step up, choose a target and demolish it—followed by an interview on their intention, sparking a debate about the politics behind the gesture.

NENDA is an actress and musician from the Austrian Tyrolean Alps. As an actor, she is known from series such as The Rising (Sky) and Belgravia: The Next Chapter (MGM+, Amazon). As a musician, NENDA has won several awards for her self-produced music videos, and her debut single Mixed Feelings topped the FM4 annual charts in 2021. In her debut album KRRRA (Autumn 2025), she continues to explore topics such as identity and other socio-political issues.

Peace and anti-militarization advocates are often dismissed as being naive or even accused of providing tacit support for authoritarian regimes. This workshop equips participants with solid arguments and talking points to counter such accusations. After a short introduction to various common attack lines, participants practice debate and dialogue skills in either pairs or small groups. The group is then presented with the option to test these arguments out in real conversations in a public space. A closing discussion and reflection allows participants to share experiences and refine strategies.

Holy Echo is new sound installation created for St. Mary’s Cathedral. It proposes that a space becomes sacred when human perception is reorganized through an extraordinary acoustic field.
In this performance, evala uses the Holy Echo spatial sound system to dissolve the cathedral’s architecture, transforming it into a fluid, otherworldly realm that transcends time and place. Features coloratura soprano Ayako Tanaka as special guest. Her voice is processed by evala in real-time, immersing the audience.

Hadra Rave emerges from the artistic encounter between Viennese music producer and artist Seba Kayan and Syrian oud player and composer Orwa Saleh, both established internationally through their solo practices. The project explores how diasporic sound cultures, ritual traditions and contemporary electronic music can create new forms of collective experience.
Combining Seba Kayan’s electronic sound research with Orwa Saleh’s expressive oud playing and improvisation, the project creates a dialogue between club culture and Arabic musical traditions. Through rhythm, memory and live interaction, Hadra Rave explores how diasporic sonic practices can reshape narratives, preserve cultural memory and create new forms of collective experience.
Rooted in the Sufi Hadra—a ritual of musical and dance ecstasy connected to both artists’ cultural heritage—the project transforms traditional forms of trance into a contemporary sonic practice.

DAS Trail is a fieldwork program developed as part of the Data Art & Science Project. In this workshop for kids and teens, you will learn about the local area through data collection. Together with other families, you will walk along specially curated trails in Linz and explore the city from a new perspective through observation, Gaussian Splatting 3D scanning of your discoveries and engaging in dialogue with others.
Cost: This tour is designed for kids, teens, and families. We will enjoy a walk through the city with different stops to record findings as 3D scans and collectively connect to Linz from a different perspective. On Friday, there is another DAS Trail Workshop for all age groups.

Wicked Mirror transforms public debate into an encounter with one’s AI-generated double. A photorealistic clone adopts the visitor’s face, voice and arguments—only to challenge them. In conversation with the artists, researchers of the Catholic Private University Linz explore how AI reshapes identity, empathy and democratic dialogue. From the perspectives of art history and theology, they ask how aesthetic experience can foster reflection, disagreement and new ways of negotiating what it means to be human in an increasingly AI-mediated world.

Future Screenshots asks: What if we could reach into a possible future, unlock a phone and take a screenshot? In this workshop, audiences draft messages, maps, prompts and posts from worlds that do not yet exist. By mapping, comparing and presenting these everyday digital traces, the workshop explores how our anticipation of change and stability shapes our technological and political imagination—and how the futures people imagine together can become the futures they begin to create.
