Hadra Rave emerges from the artistic encounter between Viennese music producer and artist Seba Kayan and Syrian oud player and composer Orwa Saleh, both established internationally through their solo practices. The project explores how diasporic sound cultures, ritual traditions and contemporary electronic music can create new forms of collective experience.
Combining Seba Kayan’s electronic sound research with Orwa Saleh’s expressive oud playing and improvisation, the project creates a dialogue between club culture and Arabic musical traditions. Through rhythm, memory and live interaction, Hadra Rave explores how diasporic sonic practices can reshape narratives, preserve cultural memory and create new forms of collective experience.
Rooted in the Sufi Hadra—a ritual of musical and dance ecstasy connected to both artists’ cultural heritage—the project transforms traditional forms of trance into a contemporary sonic practice.
