The new exhibition venue Orangery Salzburg – Panorama | World Heritage re-contextualizes cultural heritage not as a static archive, but as a space for interactive, shared experience. How can digital technologies open new ways of seeing, understanding, negotiating and collectively experiencing cultural heritage? Salzburg Museum and Ars Electronica Futurelab discuss this through showcasing one of the new interventions. At its core is Johann Michael Sattler’s panoramic view of Salzburg (1825–1829), explored through a gigapixel image that reveals details down to individual brushstrokes. This historical perspective is paired with a contemporary 360° photographic panorama of Salzburg, enabling a direct comparison across time. In Deep Space 8K, visitors experience the seamless navigation between these two views using an interactive slider, uncovering preservation and transformation of the city.
