AI and Property Relations: Who Owns Our Collective Knowledge?

LLMs have been trained on the collective knowledge of humankind. While small copyright violations can land individuals in legal trouble, tech companies are seemingly permitted to train models on hundreds of terabytes of data. Should we demand public ownership of AI models—as Open Source or Open Weights?

This discussion will explore artists’ perspectives and examine how public ownership might help limit the power of tech oligarchs. The session will involve direct input from various artists themselves, followed by an open debate.
