This workshop asks who decides the music when machines generate endless sound on demand, which is as much a cultural question as it is an artistic one. Participants read a scene to music and then hear that same moment take on three different directions by using Soundbook, a tool built by Mathis Nitschke’s EU co-funded CORPUS project at Sofilab. He then demonstrates how contributing musicians actually co-own this corpus of music as opposed to simply supplying it. Filmmakers, game designers and musicians can all take part.
Cost: For musicians, composers and producers, and for people on the visual and audiovisual side: visual artists, filmmakers, game designers, and anyone building interactive experiences. The shared question is what music does to a work, so no prior technical knowledge is needed. Participants who want to follow the software part should bring their own laptop or iPad; a stable WiFi connection is required. The session plays music and audio examples over speakers.
