In this performance, elekhlekha (อีเหละเขละขละ) invites audiences to a communal participatory sound-making, activating their Network Gong Ensemble Archive—an interactive website, homemade gongs and found objects. Rooted in Southeast Asian oral and musical traditions threatened by displacement, the project asks whether sound and story can be archived without losing their living, relational meaning. Visitors of all ages are welcome to play, listen and add their own voice to the ensemble.
Cost: Bring a smartphone if you would like to join the ensemble digitally via web browser. People are free to join in and leave as they wish. We imagine something like: we start making sound, then more people join; some might leave. Rotating audience/participant. Performance time will range from 30-45 minutes, and as many people can join as can fit in the space.
