Eero Savela and Kadi Vija, along with their bands, are performing at Kanneltalo as part of the Jazz in Finland 100 centenary celebrations.
Kadi Vijaa and Eero Savela share an open-minded approach to their respective instruments, as well as a desire to explore new forms of expression through improvisation and composition. Their music embodies both delicate beauty and bold exploration – a quest to rediscover one’s own voice time and again.
The concert fits naturally into the hundred-year history of jazz in Finland. The same curiosity and quest for something new that made jazz so fascinating in its day are still very much present today. This evening is one of the concerts celebrating the centenary, in which that spirit of constant renewal is reflected through the work of two distinctive artists.
Eero Savela Quartet performs the music of trumpeter and composer Eero Savela, in which the compositions play a central role, providing a starting point for collective improvisation. The songs’ clear melodies provide something to latch onto, but the band’s aim is to break free, listen and take their music in freer directions.
