This performance brings together solos by young flamenco dancers and seasoned veterans, as well as excerpts from Criaturas, a new-generation contemporary flamenco piece.
Proyecciones sets its course from the traditions of flamenco towards the future.
Solos from young talents and seasoned veterans
The tradition of flamenco is reflected in this collection of solos with nuance and a rich colour palette. The stage features young flamenco dancers, many of whom are making their debut as soloists, alongside more experienced dancers. The solos are built around elements of traditional flamenco, spiced up with different flavours. Alongside the dancers, a host of talented musicians are there to interpret various styles of flamenco.
The evening is dedicated to dance artist Laura Rintamäki – a much-loved and highly regarded figure who has had a major influence on Finnish flamenco and is a true driving force behind the art form. Some of the solos were created as part of a solo project launched jointly by Rintamäki and Laura Vilhonen, in which ambitious dancers were given an opportunity to develop solos and challenge themselves under the guidance of different choreographers. Vilhonen is now putting the finishing touches to the project, and the solos are set to be performed in front of an audience for the first time.
Some of the solos were choreographed by flamenco dancers Minna Saalpo and Camila Laine.
