The sonic fireworks of Szymanowski’s Concert Overture; the melody and star-cross’d romance of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet...what more intoxicating way to launch the FRSO’s new season?
Both works are particular favourites of music director Nicholas Collon; though Sofia Gubaidulina’s Viola Concerto inhabits a very different world, defined by an instrument that she saw as “an enigma, and an object of rapture”.
A perfect introduction to the FRSO’s new artist-in-residence, viola virtuoso Antoine Tamestit.
