The 27th summer exhibition of the Art Institute Haihatus, Rihmasto (Mycelium) spreads to Haihatus, opens in the renewed courtyard in Joutsa on 19.6.–30.8.2026. The exhibition features twenty artists and artist groups operating in Finland, who examine the theme of mycelium from diverse perspectives.
The works of the exhibition are spread throughout the gallery building, the garden, and the outbuildings, forming an intuitive route that the visitor can follow at their own pace. The exhibition includes installations, sculptures, and participatory works that invite the audience to experience art with the whole body. Some of the works live and change during the exhibition in interaction with the audience, nature, and the environment.
The Rihmasto exhibition combines perspectives from art, science, and community action in the themes of the sustainability transition. Alongside the familiar outsider art pieces in the garden area, there is also an international work belonging to the Art Without Transportation project, a sculpture by Canadian artist Jude Griebel, locally crafted.
In connection with the exhibition visit, you can enjoy the vegan summer café offerings of Haihatus, explore the sales exhibition in the museum shop, and overnight in the Art Camping area in hammocks or tents. During the summer, there will also be workshops, guided tours, and concerts. For example, collage, spray painting, and philosophy workshops can be attended with the exhibition ticket price.
