Baltic Sea Day is celebrated in Suomenlinna. Highlights of the program include:
10.00 & 13.15 Beach Clean-up Together!
The participants collect and count marine litter while learning how waste ends up on the shores of Suomenlinna. Departure: Main Quay, duration approx. 2 h
10.30–14.00 Playful Fish-themed Drawing Workshop, Suomenlinna Museum
17.00–19.00 Birds of the Archipelago Exhibition,
free photo exhibition, Korppukuivaamo Passage
18.00 Herman Brothers, live music, Cafe Bar Valimo
18.00 Take a Dip in the Baltic Sea, Suomenlinna Beach. Belongings can be left in the Gunpowder Magazine
18.00 Collection of Algae Samples, Suomenlinna Beach. Algae researcher Sonja Repetti will collect samples from the sea using a plankton net. Swimmers can also participate.
19.00 Flagellate Collective, Gunpowder Magazine
Audiences will explore samples collected from the Baltic Sea through a microscope and projected onto a large screen. Musicians respond to the movements of algae using horns and flutes. Introduction to the algae and the instruments used. Voluntary fee, recommendation €5–20
19.00 Viapori Jazz Baltic Sea Day Surprise Concert, fee included
12.00-22.00 (kitchen until 21.00), Restaurant Suomenlinnan Panimo will donate 20% of the revenue from seasonal menus to the John Nurminen Foundation.
